Ok... I've read all that I care to read about how crappy the speedster is.... I WANT ONE! I had a 1979 MGB. The top leaked.. the battery constantly died... the damn thing smelled like gas and leather... I couldn't go 3 miles without my back sweating from the leather seats... I MISS THAT CAR!!! I HATE MYSELF FOR SELLING IT!!! Here is what I am going to do... Right now I am an overseas Gov. Contractor and when I come home in November, I am going to purchase a Speedster Replicar! I've read a lot on Vintage Speedsters, Beck Speedsters, JPS-Speedsters, Intermeccanica Speedsters, and Speciality Auto Speedsters. Im leaning towards either a Beck and Intermeccanica. The Intermeccanica speedster really interests me. They have installed Power glass windows, and the Beck and Vintage Speedsters have outstanding fit and finish, but I need something that I can drive everyday (rain or not) in Pensacola, FL. I love the idea of power glass windows (that air conditioning and radio are the ONLY things I want different that the orig). Can anyone help me and give me guidence on what manufacturer out there makes the best fit/finish, most reliable speedster? I also really like the looks of the "D" Speedster?. I NEED SOME INSIGHT!!!! AHHHHH!!!!!!

Douglas - I'm understandably partial to Beck and don't hesitate to recommend them. Not only is the product good, but the folks at Special Edition are great to deal with. But I also have to go with Gert and say the JPS is great as well. John Steele is a perfectionist - a good quality in my mind. IM is a textbook example of "you get what you pay for". SAWs are really nicely done, if you want to go a different route. And finally, Vintages have given more people the Speedster SEG than anything else. What I'm getting at is that it's almost impossible to make a bad choice. It's more a matter of $$$ and what features you want. And as you may have noticed, all of us here just love to debate the merits of various small bits and pieces, and we all have strong opinions. Welcome to our special kind of lunacy. Feel free to PM me if you want some blatant opinions :-).
How much are you willing to spend? That's the bottom line.
If you have read all that you want to about these little cars then you must know all the debates.
If not, read some more, especially the post at the top of this category: Ready for a Speedster Replica? - (Everything you need to know)
Get to one of the gatherings; Paso Robles or Carlisle. Sit in the cars, push the buttons and ask a million questions. Call the different manufacturers and ask questions.
Find someone that will let you DRIVE their car and see if it fits you. They are not for everyone.
I love my JPS but I don't and never would consider it a daily driver. If that's what I needed I would go with an Intermeccanica.
It's the only speedster with roll up glass windows and the only builder of the 'D' Roadster.
Good luck with your search.
For the record,

John Steele at JPS has in fact installed roll up windows in at least one of his Speedsters for a customer. I have seen it. Got the impression that John was not too crazy about the idea, as it spoils the aesthetics a bit, but he works hard to do what the customers want, and so has made a Speester w/ roll up windows. Moreover, I am not sure if he'd want this to get out -- certainly, he does not advertise this feature. I assume this mod works much better in the rain than sidecurtains. And John is now making a Coupe, which of course will be watertight, in case that might be of interest. He IS advertising the Coupe.
