What is a fair price to ask for this project? It is only few hours away from me and if the price is right I may think about it. Of course, I will have to spend enough to make it look the way I want to.

Lamros,
Do it! For that kind of money you can't pass it up!
You've been down the Speedster route before so it won't be as hard this time to get the car the way you want it. Plus you can take your time with it and do improvements as finances allow. It doesn't look like it would take too much to get it on the road to begin with assuming the seller has the rest of the stuff.
to be honest, i find myself purposely slowing down on the build to savor it.

After i got it running, she was like - "Let go for a drive!"

I said - "What's the rush? This is what building a car is all about - savor the moment!"

my wife thinks I'm nuts

Anyone can buy a car. Building one with your own hands is something in a completely different ball-park.
I agree with Paul in regard to "enjoying the journey". I'm amazed at how my patience has improved with my project. I'll have to admit I get into a pissy mood at times because I want it to go faster but it's shortlived. I am pretty anxious to get the engine in a get it out just to see the difference. After that all the other little things will get done as time allows. I hope to have it all done by spring next year but if I don't, Oh well,
But as far as geting one built for less, I can't say that would be the case for sure. When my car is all done I feel pretty confident in saying I'd be hard pressed to get it for what I spent. Maybe, maybe not? All the little details that will go into it would send it up to a pretty penny.
All that said, there is definitely something about doing it yourself that makes it more enjoyable. And, to a point, more affordable in the long run. Because if you know how it was done, you can probably fix it if it breaks.
Mickey, it is so satisfying to wrench on your own car. When something is amiss, it is far easier to diagnose and fix if you put it together. Sweat equity rules!

If your car is together but not painted we all expect you to be at Carlisle 09 anyway. There are no rules or trophies, just cool cars and people!
Danny I'll be at Carlisle paint or no paint. I was there this year. I got there about 15 mins after EVERYONE left. Jeez, a little rain and everyone packs up and leaves. LOL.

Paul,
That's kinda what I'm saying. Doing it right is where the money is. I bet the quality of a car you built would cost a lot of money to get turnkey.
Not to stir the pot but there are some folks that have shelled out some serious money and didn't get the quality work, just pretty LOOKING cars.
I talked to the father. I was told the tail lights are missing, but it comes with a lot of parts. He didn't know much about the car. The impression I got talking to him they want a lot of money for theirs.
He told me they keep an eye on speedsters that sell on ebay, and they can sell for $30000+. I told him they are tube frame and NOT VW based speedsters.
TC... a decent body that has the doors deck and engine lids is worth $3,000. Complete windshield set add $300. ( this particular cracked windshield = value so delete the $300.
The CMC interior is not worth much if anyting but the fiberglass seat shells sell well on eBay at $75 each. Installed used tranny is a toss up at $75( who knows what condition it may be in) and a running 1600 motor say $250 as it is also unknown, figure it into the equasion as a parts donor only. This has been my $$$ formula in past purchases. Should a project have a complete refurbished chassis I'd value that at $2000 for both time and materials. ~Alan
