Missed your previous post-

I take it the engine is brand new. Find out if it's had an oil change; if the break-in/start up oil is still in it, then it needs fresh oil. I don't remember (in your other thread) if you are VW savvy- these things need non SM or SN rated, higher zinc/phosphorus oil, and Valvoline's VR1 (10-30) is available almost everywhere (there are others, but this is/should be easy to find) and right for your engine. Again, since it's brand new, just take it easy; no super high rpm's for the moment. Drive it around, varying the rev's. Don't lug it (keep it above 2,000rpm most of the time), and putting a load on it for short periods of time (up a hill) sometimes can help seat the rings.

Shift the transaxle easily, and let things "wear in" a bit as well. I've heard of guys changing oil in a new trans after 50? 100? 500? miles, but never done it myself.

Hope this helps. Don't be afraid to ask about anything. Al (still waiting for your first name)

Then how do you do it? And do you have a first name your mama gave you that we can call you?

Thanks Collin; most of us are on a first name basis here. A lot of people here have met and are friends. I consider Carl, Rich, Al Gallo, Jack, Ted (and others) friends, although I've never met any of them. If we ever do, I'm sure there'll be hugs and beer! And with that, time to feed the kiddies breakfast...

PS- And just call me Al (come on, you know the tune...)

Hey Collin!  I got you message the other day and have been too busy with Carlisle travel and now getting back to work to respond.  I will do so shortly (when I can re-read  your message).

Oh wait...  You were looking for an owner's manual, right?  Have you spoken to Carey yet?  I can't distribute the PDF without his permission, but if he has none available maybe he'll let me send it to you.

I have determined that the PO did not use Brad Penn oil.

I have ordered the Brad Penn SE30 run in oil, the Brad Penn 20W50 normal oil (the green oil!), and the gaskets, screens and oil filters.

I have also ordered new tires to replace the 31km 10-year old tires on the car.

The Beck manual, and VW manual for compleat idiots have arrived.

The Motive Power bleeder VW adaptor has been ordered.

The Ranger Quickjack portable lift has been ordered (this is the only reason I bought another hobby car!).

The Speedster has been collected, its in transit, arrives in Florida Saturday.

Now I have to get out of bandito country in the mountains of north-west Mexico, and get back to Florida before my new passion/hobby arrives!

Curious if you got your Quickjack and if it works for a Speedster.  Which model did you order?  I was thinking I would get the 5000 so I could also lift my other cars, but I think it might be too big for the Speedster.  I'm concerned that the 3000 might even be too big.  The specs show that the platform is 46" and there isn't that much room at the outside edges of our pans.  That means that both lifts would need to be closer to the center of our pans and I'm a little worried that would make it a bit unstable. I know there are rubber blocks that can be positioned along the platforms.  I'm not even sure if it would be advisable to lift it from the pan rather than at specific jack points.

I think I am going to start a Quickjack thread that would be more appropriate for this discussion.
