Aw come on guys! Just because this is the two wheeler that Terry the Toad (American Graffiti) rode, they're still pretty cute. As a matter of fact, just imagine one with a sharks mouth on the front fender or the apron. Pretty cool, huh??? No, I don't own one, but if gas goes above five bucks a gallon, I'll be knocking on the dealers door.

Cory .... It's all about color. This is my 1961 Vespa that I restored a couple of years ago. I used my own color selection and I think it sure looks better than some I've seen. It will go well with my 57 Speedster unless someone would like to buy it. It is for sale. Need room in my garage for my Speedster. Also, I have A 37 Ford 2 door sedan that I should sell. Mike

Michael, I'll NEVER cast aspersions on a project belonging to anyone here.
The rest of the world, however, is fair game. When they've got Europeans on 'em, those little scooters have reserved parking spaces in the third ring of Hell.
I knocked a blue Vespa and the three people on it over near Fumacino Airport on my first day driving in Italy a few years back.
I plowed that little son of a bitch right on over into a flowerbed with the left rear fender of a rental Opel Astra -- after the operator decided to jam into the inside of the inside lane of a traffic circle. He deserved it.
I didn't even look back.
So what's the possibility That you take on a vespa as your next project. Come on, could be fun. :)

So back to what I was saying on the phone:
Porsche Silver, with the 2 blue apache stripes running over the left front fender. Like on the Cobras. If your feeling "Crazy", you might go with a Sun Burst Yellow instead.

I remember reading an article in one of the motorcycle mags a few years back, where the correspondent showed up for a Saturday morning ride on a Vespa. It was a "full on" Italian tuned version, slightly oversized tires, aggressive tread and rubber compound, larger brakes. Shaved running boards to prevent dragging in hard corners. On the run up the canyon, it definitely lacked the horsepower of the bigger toys, but stayed with them in the corners. On the trip back down the canyon, it actually opened up some distance on the bigger bikes due to its cornering prowess. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. This may not be the ride for you if you are insecure, and yeah, it sure looks dorky . . .
Egad!
Todd - here are a couple links for your next project:

(which Angela is about to best with a stupid-huge engine and the Lane Family Modification series.)

(which I think is a fantastic-looking decklid alternative.)
Personally I like Vespas...they have character.

A girl I knew had a Vespa car. Now that was sweet! Had a 2 cylinder air cooled engine in the back and it was chain driven. She had it in high school so we always played pranks on her.

Once we lifted the car up and put coke bottles under each of the four wheels. Another time we carried it sideways in between two buildings such that there was no room to move forward or back. That car was great fun!!

Okay, first the Vespa, and now somebody's going to send me a link like this one. Is nothing sacred anymore?
(Have a look at the second-from-bottom photo.)
Egad! This metal miniature has better bodywork than my full-sized Hoopty!

And here's the stripes and meatball thing, redone ... again ...

OK Cory I'm gonna settle this for ya - NO FANCY SCHMANCY STUFF! If you're gonna do anything other than all silver or all flat black do your original Le Mans thing and screw the Vespa! Your car screams BADASS, don't take any of that away with stripes or meatballs. Think "Outlaw", think "Old School", those cars were built for speed and performance, not so people would look and say "Ooooo, look how pretty it is with those stripes." I think simplicity fits you and the car (No, I'm not calling you simple). There isn't anything on that car that isn't there for any other purpose than making it go fast or to make it perform, don't lose that. Of course this is my opinion and even though I always know best not everyone else knows that I know best(ha), so do what ever feels right in your gut.

On another note - My mechanic is almost done with my rebuild. He is waiting on some longer J-tubes for the Tri Mill so maybe in a few days? I can't wait! He did the thing from top to bottom - new crank, cams, heads, pistons, valves, exhaust, all the correct engine tin, new clutch, front and rear sway bars, and a few others. He's also gonna re-rivet the body to the frame in a few places, as the old rivets are stretched a bit, just to tighten things up. So, hopefully next week I'll be out and about, it's been killing me these past few days! With all this new engine work I may be able to keep up with Hoopty (haaaaa ha haaaa, I crack myself up)! But maybe a cruise?
Mickey, the car's in running order again, but this time I'm following Jake's advice and making the engine tins before I do anything radical with the car. I will be taking advantage of the break while the exhaust is being done in Alabama or wherever, and making a complete set of tins and maybe having the thing painted. We'll see how the budget holds up.
I've solved all of your chroma and hue problems . . . .

Paint it like this:

Buy the toy, display it proudly on the hood at shows along with a folded pair of driving gloves and a helmet to match the toy's "drivers" and it's a done deal ! ! !

You'll be the hit of every show that you attend. I see national magazine coverage in your future . . . children will emulate you, men will envy and fear you, women will want you, AND you'll develop X-RAY vision ! ! !

Check out the thong on THAT one ! ! !
