So far I have precious little info on my engine and especially the engine. I took a couple of pics of the engine and carbs today. Can anyone ID these carbs please ?
The car continues to run very well.

The block off plate over the cold idle enrichment section screams WEBER..... Not sure of the model / type..... Need pictures of the other side / end....
In the first pic you can see the Weber symbol on the nearest barrel- they're IDF's of some sort. Take a pic of the symbols on 1 of the carb flanges.
First arrow shows 'Weber'.
Second arrow shows where model number might be. Mine says '40 IDF' there, followed by a serial number and 'Made in Spain'.
X4 on the Weber IDF. No way to tell the size from the pics. What size is the engine again?
Edit: Just saw the indication of a 2.3 liter engine, so I’ll bet they’re 44s.

Still waiting on info from the previous owner on the engine build, Laner. No clues so far on the build and someone related to the sale thought it might be a 2332, hence the 2.3 l indicator. I'm guessing there might be brass thingmes in there too so I'm progressing slowly.

Thanks, Mitch. Just got back out there and took a couple of pics with the cell phone. IDF's alright...48's . Made in Spain. I also see 7 and 2L above and to the right of Made in Spain. Would the carb size give any indication of what the internals of the engine might be ?
David Stroud posted:...Would the carb size give any indication of what the internals of the engine might be ?...
No, not directly. Only that 48's are generally spec'd for larger engines, say over 2110.
So, this does make it more likely that the engine is a 2.3 liter.
The 40 &44 idf carbs work well on 1600 to 2180cc but can to be tunedto work on larger motors. The idf 48's work ok on large cc motors. The challenge with 48's is tuning them. The 48's flow more air than the 42's and take more time to tune
My previous IM speedster had a 2332 engine, and I never had to touch the weber carbs. Once set up properly, there is no issue with them.
Dave: I guess you are waiting for Ron to contact you on the engine? What about Henry or Robert?

Henry said he's pretty sure about it being a 2232 but knows little else about it. Ron is hard to get a hold of and so far has not responded. I've sent an email to the engine builder, Darren Krewenchuck but no reply. The car runs fine and the motor seems to be powerful but it would just be nice to know what you have. I bought it in a hurry so I'll just have to put up with that.
@David Stroud IM Roadster D- is that Ron O's 2332? I remember Darren going through it for him. Let me know if it is and I'll go through my pm's and see what I can dig up. Ron and I talked about it because he was having trouble getting his mechanic to finish the trans install (iIrc he had a 901 for it?) and get the engine in/running with CB's (gen 3?) fuel injection. All I know is that Darren Krewenchuck built the engine for Ron Leonard. If indeed that was Ron O's engine previously, then you know more about it than I do. Please expand on anything you can dig up for me, Al. Perhaps PM would be more appropriate. Thanks

I'll look and see what I have, David, but I was wondering why it wasn't Ron O's car it was in. I didn't realize there was another Ron involved. This makes more sense now...

Just to be clear, Ron Leonard of Vancouver sold me the car and the deal was facilitated by Henry Reisner of IM.
In 2009 I was in contact with R Leonard I still have his old email if you need it David. Season's over for us now that snow has hit the ground .

Ignore me, David. When you first said Ron's engine had been built by Darren (a very knowledgable head porter and engine builder in the Vancouver area) I assumed the car had Ron O's engine. My bad....
I do know Darren and will try to get hold of him and ask what he remembers. Do you know how long ago it was built?

No sweat, Dude. Sorry we couldn't hook up for a bit while buying the Roadster. You weren't far away, I guess. Hope we can meet some day and you can see at least another Ron's engine. We had a great time driving driving through beautiful BC. Like many of our other trips....wish we could have taken longer to do it.

Unfortunately I was in and out of town when you were here picking up the car, otherwise I would have come down to IM (I'm less than 10 minutes away) .
I think the mystery is solved. I would have said Weber, or Weber facsimile. Easy enough to measure venturi diam, then you know. I have 44s on my 2332. working well at the moment, but you never know w these things. And yes, there are brass thingies under that cover, and you best beware if take apart. Or ask Lane for directions . . .
BWAAAHAHA . . .
Nice looking car. What has possessed you to have two? White one working too well, so got nothing to do??

Screwing it up once is a very effective way to learn what NOT to do.

Roadsters don't come available like this very often. Been thinking about one for a while.
