Hi, are there any Idaho folks out there? I am contemplating a move to Coeur D'Alene from New Mexico and wonder about registering a kit car in Idaho. If any of you from Idaho can enlighten me, please help. Thanks,john

John;
What the Idaho brethren, would need to know, is how the car is currently registered?, if it is a pan based car, chassis year of manufacture, and engine, year of manufacture. What does the Idaho DMV ask/require via their website? If it is a specially constructed vehicle the rules very from state to state
As long as you are not a Ho. You don't have to register.

Assuming HO means homeowner,I was not clear in my question. My plan would be to move to Coeur D'Alene, buy a home, move all my cars there, and register them. Idaho would become my permanent residence. Thanks again, john.
John, I see only 2 members from Idaho listed. Neither have posted on the site since April of 2013. But Idaho being such a recreation destination, there could be folks with primary residences else where, but a 2nd home in Idaho, with a Idaho registered replica.
Thanks Art. One of the positive characteristics of Idaho IMO is sparsely populated. That works against me when looking for members from that state. It is also a car friendly state like NM but personal experience from a fellow replica person would be helpful. I will continue to wait and see if someone with that personal knowledge shows up.
John, here's a starting point. Good luck

Thanks Pmossberg. I quickly went thru the first attachment and at first glance it appears that the replica approach may work well for me. I must say that it appears that Idaho is a fair and reasonable state to work with if you have a 550.
John,
Be aware that, in all states, our replicas only represent a tiny fraction of registered vehicles, so it's common to be helped by DMV employees who have never registered a car like ours. It's also common to have an employee give you incorrect advice about registration. Speaking to a manager can sometimes help. Staying calm always helps. If you can find a local car club in Idaho, they can be a great source for accurate and current registration info, sometimes even recommending a specific person in a specific office. Best of luck!
I bought my Speedster in Boise, Idaho in 2010 and it was correctly registered there. The DMV seemed to know what they were doing and it was a straight forward process to get the car into my name and a travel permit issued for export to Canada.
I want to thank all in the group for the very helpful information. A 1500 mile move is a daunting task but now my mind is at peace knowing registering my vehicles will not be an issue. john
Just one other comment...which likely applies regardless of your home state.
Print all the rules and reg's, read 'em, understand 'em...and bring them with you to your DMV office. No need to throw them up in the DMV staff's face, but if or when they start floundering, it's great to be able to show them the answers in their own rules.
