Ron, split the case last week. The engine was a 78.4x94 (2180?) with an Engle 120. It should have had lots of power, but suffered from restrictive heads. I just dropped my new engine parts off at Darrin's today. He has been working on the new heads for about 2 weeks already and they are almost done. I think he said the intakes flow about 210! With an 86b and 48idfs it should really fly.

BugPak now has 1 5/8 heater boxes so I am trying to get a set. I have heard that CB might be carrying them, but haven't heard about them yet. I'm hoping to have it ready to drive by early Feb.
Jim Ward,
Thanks for the compliments! I build my own engines and I've been doings so since I was a teen in high school (Man, 22 years ago!). I am a mechanical engineer and I love working on different combos. Recently, I've been playing aroound with split duration cams and boy, I love them! I am currently getting ready to fire up my 2110-cc. The following are the specs:

-82-mm stroker counterweighted forged crank
-044 40-mm x 35.5-mm CB Performance heads with mild port and polish and dual springs
-stock rockers with 911 adjusters on autocraft solid shafts
-Webcam 121/125 Split duration camshaft
-Scat light lifters
-Chromoly I-beam conrods
-lighted 12 lb flywheel
and other goodies

I currently have a temporary Supertrapp mounted while I design and fab the 1-5/8" exhaust and heater boxes. I plan to try making different exhausts for different powerplant configuration requirements including stock to big-bore-strokers. I plan to make them available to fellow "tubbers" if you're interested. I will most likely, for the hipo systems, stick to equal length 4-into-1 merged headers with collectors. As for the stock and mild engines, some of the systems I used in the past will be more than adequate. I will dyno them against each other on my stocker and 2110-cc and 2378-cc engines to compare them.
I'll keep everyone posted.
Regards,
Tony

Here's the custom set up I had done for my Speedster by a local tuning center called HANSONS Muffler. It utilizes a 1-5/8" short flanged header to prevent it from exiting the rear. The muffler is a Magnaflow and has been tucked up into the bodywork for a completely hidden look. All tubing was Madrel-bent for a very clean look. Sound is very quiet and non-VWish
