The idle jets could be the problem as could timing, points, condenser, mis-adjusted carb's, dirty fuel/filter etc.

In my post above, I'm refering to the floor of the air cleaner base confined within the air cleaner. You can remove the base and wash or use brake clean and carefully clean the base.
When I first got my car, I keep having problem with the idle jet getting clog. If you have the Weber IDF you might want to put the CB Performance IDF Jet doctor : http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=1507 this help prevents the dirt from coming to the opening of the idle jet. Another advantage that I find out after putting this IDF jet doctor is that if the clogging is not too bad, I can just put compressed air to the tube and usually it clear the clogging without having to take out the idle jet which can be a PITA

Using compressed air through the passages with the jets installed is BAD !!!! Don't do it. Under certain conditions, it can pack junk into the passages and into the jets. Sometimes you'll get away with it, then when least expected, you'll pack the carburetor passsage ways with crud and will have to disassemble the carb's to clear the passage ways

Remove the jets, then clean.

K&N makes a real neat grease, not like axle bearing grease but more like thick hair gel. It's used by off roaders around the base and lid of their air cleaners to help trap dirt. A VERY thin coating of this grease on the floor of the air cleaner base will help to keep crud from entering the idle jets.
Yeah, I don't think you'll see anywhere near 180hp on Kadrons.

I'm just saying(thanks Jim)!

I can see where it is a real PIA for you Speedster drivers, not so for us Spyder guys. After Carlisle, the same jet clogged once so far this year. Five minutes later I had unclogged it and was underway again. It would be great if you could get different manifolds that fit Speedsters but reversed the carbs, leaving all the adjustments and jets accessable from the inside. Possible?

Keep your air filters clean, seal them up with grease or vaseline, and most of all once carbs are synched, leave the air filters alone. Just the act of removing the tops can drop enough dirt to clog a jet.

Also, use good filtration, and make sure your accelerator pump diaphragms are not disintegrating from todays fuel.

And KEEP THE WATER OUT!
Mango,

I believe the idea is to put grease under the filter elements, right on the air filter base to keep dirt from accumulating and then drifting down the hole and into the carbs, which are vented, or into the air inlet for the idle jets, which are right there on the top of the carb. The grease will keep small particles (and only one small particle will do the deed) out and will catch and trap them when you R&R the filter. Very clever idea here that could save a bunch of trouble.
