when cold the idle speed is perfect at around 900rpm.
but after the motor gets hot its more like 1500rpm. i tried tapping the accelerator but it doesnt change it. the idle stops on carbs are dead set against the stop at idle when both hot or cold, yet the idle speed changes. what gives?

Wait until your engine is fully warmed. Reset the idle to whatever works for you - say 1000 RPM. When starting a cold engine, just keep blipping the throttle or maintain a slight pressure on the gas pedal until the engine gets some heat in it.

You are going to be idling with a warm engine a lot more often than with a cold engine. Think of it as a "starting ritual". Some Webers have no choke, so this is routine. Don't know much about other carbs.
