Ignition light

Why does my ignition light indicator stay on after the car is started? This is a new occurance.

Generator (or alternator) not charging! Fan belt gone/slipping? Idle too low? Needs new brushes? Regulator bad? Does it go a way when you speed up the engine or drive for a few miles?

Disconnected the neg. ground to the battery and left the positive on for a few days (got a phone call). Could that have caused it?

NO - probably best way to store battery in warm weather and not have vehicle hot wired and gone in 60 seconds!

I drve the car for about 1/2 hour and the light went off.
Weird...
