Question concerning ignition. I appreciate all the advice that folks have been giving me, especially Gordon and Alan, concerning the ignition problems I have been having. I have replaced the wiring on my 95 CMC Speedster including the alternator, and just replaced my ignition switch. When the new switch was installed I started the car and It ran well. However, when I turned it off and tried restarting it I had nothing except for an almost inaudible click from the strter soloneid. This is really getting frustrating and I would appreciate any advice to get this sorted out.

Frequently the "clunk" only at start-up with a warm engine is a sign of a failing starter. If the starter works well when cool but fails when hot, it's likely on it's way to total failure. Another possible cause, the small wire that "excites" the starter is a slip-on connector on the stock Bug. This is also a frequent trouble spot, make sure it fits tightly on the slip-on terminal on the starter.
I like the auto stick starter. But a high tourqe reduction drive is almost the same price as a new bosch unit.

If you have a bad budget have good starter shop recondiction a autostick starter for you The german starters are wound with a heaver gauge copper wire. Only the bearings, brushes and sometime the solnoids.,give out.

The old stuff is much higher in quality than the new aftermarket junk
