Ignition Switch

I replaced my mailbox key and ignition switch with a Bosch ignition and authentic Porsche key and never looked back. You could even drill some holes in it to give it some more originality. Very easy to install and you can pair it with a push button starter if you wanted to as well.

This Bosch one is reasonable - keys even look period.  $46

And they hold up a LOT better than cheap auto parts store specials.

Me too. I got mine at Autohaus AZ

As Robert said, drill some  holes in the keys and they'll look period as well.

I asked for one in my car (vs that cheaper looking filing cabinet one I've seen) and I would agree with others that is a good option, keys and all

So, after reading this thread earlier this week, can you imagine what I obsessed over yesterday during my work commute in the Spyder???

I can now only see a riding lawnmower ignition switch and a mailbox key!

It didn’t occur to me before, but now I can’t unsee it.  😝

Got mine installed.  Thanks for the part recommendation, and thanks to the group’s archives for telling me how to wire it. Before and after pics attached.  Went ahead and spent a little extra on Sierra’s chrome bezel.  This switch feels really solid — a great upgrade!  

Now that's a proper ignition switch and key. No more PO Boxes, mailboxes, or 12 year old's diaries here.

LOL. That’s the “good” switch I bought from Carey because when I bought my car it had and even cheesier lock/key that could be turned with a screwdriver. I’ve been meaning to get a VW replacement since forever. It’s just one of those projects that’s always gets shuffled down the list.
