I took my vs out for a morning trip to grocery store and now the car will not start. I have power from the battery but when I turn the key In the ignition nothing happens....just silence. Any suggestions as I await the flatbed truck?

Assuming you dont have a loose wire somewhere, first guess would be a failed ignition switch. It's a common point of failure due to the high current loads experienced from running the starter. Typical mod to correct that is using a relay to power the starter and the (new) ignition switch only controls the relay.
Additionally to what Justin mentioned...
These little cars are also notorious for bad ground (electrical) connections! You could save yourself some money by checking for any corrosion at each location where there is a grounding connection (battery to chassis, starter to chassis, etc.) Also check if your battery does not have a bad cell. 
You probably have voltage to coil. Since std trans - get a rolling push and pop clutch while in low gear with key on and it should start to make it home.
2nd gear would be good for these push starts!
