Despite the demise of Sky King...I can still be expected to show up for a mid-Illinois run in mid-September.

Al, you're memory is fading.
Rich, don't ruin it for me.
I remember seeing that plane a long time ago. It's a monument for the 1980's agriculture crash. It honor the farmers who lost everything during that time.
There is a neat go kart track near that area. If there are no events on they do rent karts out for heat racing. Just a thought.
Joe, you still on...I'll surely be coming if you're showing up.
Go karting, as a momentary break for Stan, would be cool...Stan always insists these things are driving events. P-breaks are even hard to come by!
Tom Boney? What's your status? Marty/Sandy? Joe, you kickin' the soccer ball? Peter Konkel, you listening?
I ve got on my calendar. I took the car out Saturdays ...it still runs!!!!!
Hi Rich,
Going to post the car for sale on ebay this week or next,if no sale,I will be at the event. If it sells, I may still show up with one of my other vehicles.
Headed to Davenport this Thursday for the Antique Motorcycle meet(where my heart is),so never know what you can find at these events.
Tom, I can't remember (I know you're a busy guy), but on Facebook, there is this page called Legendary Motorcycles that daily posts very nice older bikes up for sale on eBay...FYI...hope to see you in a few weeks one way or another.
To all concerned...if Joe Soltis is coming, we all have no excuses.
The Beech 18 Monument is on route 71 a few miles from the mentioned Go-kart track in Norway, IL. This is a national Track.
(the address is actually Sheridan) and if there are no scheduled races on a Sat. you can rent Karts for $30 for a 15 minute season, $25 for the 2nd, $20 for further.
These are decent Karts, 50 mph, not beat up amusement park stuff.
However... our actual date is still not carved in stone! still trying to get the biggest turn-out and this could happen on the 14th, the 21st, or the 28th???
I can find out the race schedule for the Norway Track. I know they were still having a large race weekend still today (Monday) as the place was full of campers with Karts on the track.
Chris
Chris, sounds like an interesting diversion...I'm pretty much open for any of these weekends.
That sounds EXCELLENT, Chris. I'm still leaning on everybody to nail something down. We'll talk before this weekend, and pick something if there's no consensus.
I'd really like to do the carts, if it's possible.
Satellite Google the track...pretty cool.
Thanks for the heads up Rich, but I am not on Facebook.
The 21st works the best for me
Tom Boney...without getting on Facebook, I think you can link in here: http://www.legendaryfind.com/cars/?category=33
BTW, I'll state that the 21st would be my first choice.
It's settled then.
The first annual Sept. Starved Rock run will be Sept 21. We'll meet at the lodge parking lot at 10:00. Chris is going to do the bulk of the planning, so I'll be in touch with him.
I'm in, Bob's in, Rich is in, Tom will be in if he doesn't sell his car. I talked to Marty last week, and he was 90% sure he was in as well.
So let it be written, so let it be done.
Stan, you're getting a little Yule Brennerish and you ain't Egyptian, you're Stanistanish. We've been to Starved Rock many years ago....aboard Hogs. I wish it wasn't so far away and there wasn't something else so close to that date. Ho Humm. Life goes by soooooo fast.
Hoss
I love that line, Hoss. It's gotta' be one of the most pretentious, overwrought utterances in all of cinema.

Marty's in as well. I'm still checking with Allen Shapiro.
Yul Brynner has experienced Starving Rock in the past? Did he do the go karts too?

But of course. He shaved his head for that "extra edge".
I'm pushing another Chicagoan, Peter Konkel as well.
So we will need no bridges?
I'm about 25 minutes closer to Starved Rock than Joe. I live over by the 355/ I-80 interchange. I would love to come but I don't have my 356 anywhere close to anything much less I don't know my schedule. Probably going to sell it and get a Beck.
Jeff
Ji1, maybe you need to show up somehow and check out my Beck, it's half-heartedly for sale.
Awesome; The 21st at 10 am. The main lodge at Starved Rock state Park is about 10 minutes (max) from either I-80 or I-39. It's kinda awkward for anyone to have a GPS in the speedster (it is in mine anyway)... So I can actually be waiting at exit 81 on I-80 around 9:30-9:40 if anyone wants.
I plan to have printed maps for each driver. There will be plenty of stops.
The Go Kart thing will probably have to wait for another time; The track has an endurance race that starts at noon that Sat. 21st.
I've got most of the route plotted out, Diner will be around 6:30 Pm at the Starved Rock Marina. The food and views are very nice, shorts and T-shirts are fine. A good all-around favorite.
Haven't decided the best Lunch stop yet, lot's of choices. And again.. We can stop hourly for Ice Tea/ draft beer/ munchies
Sept. weather is usually very pleasant (fingers crossed)
Chris
If you guys want a really good steak and a crazy experience, check out Casa Mia in Naplate!

Wisconsin is a little far for me to travel. Not to mention I'm going to need Carey to do some custom stuff for my car.
Jeff
Ji1, I was referring to you showing up at Starved Rock...where I will be with my Beck.
You don't want to sell your car, Rich. Stop pretending.
I'll see if we can be there.
Jeff
It looks like we're a multi-state affair now, gentlemen. I just got word this AM that Allen and Bobbi Shipiro and their beautiful red IM "Ruby" will be coming to our little get-together.
Allen and Bobbi relocated to a log cabin in central Missouri this summer, and is a full 8 hours away... but within striking distance. I drove the speedster to Chicago this weekend visiting my daughter and her husband, and drove though 100 deg weather and a flash-flood to get up here-- but it was a blast.
These cars are beautiful, but they're most fun when they are driven. I say: drive 'em. September is the perfect time of year for a nice road-trip. I'm really looking forward to this!
That's great news!
Talked to my wife. We'll be there. I'd love to see a bunch of cars to compare, contrast and try a few seats out. Does anyone have non-speedster seats in theirs? i.e. comfortable. I'd like to find some seats so my wife can ride in our future car without her back being in pain.
We'll let you guys have your fun and we'll go hiking. I promised her dinner.
By the way, if you're coming from the East, stop at the truck stop in Morris and go to the restaurant "R Place", go to the cashier and order some cream horns. They are made fresh there and are KILLER!!!!!!!!
