I get a good laugh at those who take the single most perfect "Spartan" Sports car designed to be used for Street & TRACK and make them into "Luxury Liner"! REALLY? Air conditioning and Stereo SYSTEMS on a Speedster? Think of what James Dean or Dan Gurney would think? They would be in stitches! Imagine a '59 Caddy made into a Road Racing car to understand the irony of this! Then those fins MIGHT give some corning stability at say Monza on the high banks! LoL

If James Dean could have put into his Speedster the stereo I put in my Speedster............he would have. Nothing wrong with listening to Sammy Hagar belt out, "I can't drive 55." at 500 watts while I'm cruising down the road while not driving 55.

If you remember James Dean bought his Speedster to race, he traded it in on a 550 Spyder to RACE. Neither had a radio! I suppose the objection is that in My Speedster I couldn't hear a radio if I wanted over the exhaust noise (My personal Music). But hey I have no objection to anyone doing as they please with their cars! They ARE for fun!

Manxman,

That's the beauty of a replica. You can make it whatever you want it to be.

A few years back, I didn't get the "gentlemen's conveyance" thing either. But cars like Marty G's Subaru/IM D swung me around. If the idea is for a guy to be able to go fast and far, with his wife and a weekend bag- I get the AC and nice stereo (and heated seats, and WC engine).

That's not what a speedster means to me, but I get it.

Ain't that the truth! In the Cobra world there are guys that install A/C and kicka$$ stereo systems...in my way of thinking the stereo is pretty much useless unless the car is sitting as there is noway you can really hear the stereo playing over the the roar of the sidepipes, no matter the engine size BB or SB. As for A/C...not really going to help a lot to cool things down if the top/side curtains are not up, even then I think it'd be iffy. But it IS their car they can do with it what they want...just don't drop a Chevy or other than Ford V-8 into one...lol

I never thought I'd want air conditioning in a convertible until I owned a V8 Miata.  Top down things were fine, but with the top up it wasreally hot in the cabin, even in mild weather.

That big V8 put out a lot of heat and the builder didn't add any heat insulation.

Air con in a Subie powered IM (roll up windows) would be a 'no brainer'.

Robert - Specs please! One foot on the brake and one on the gas!

My thought is that AC would be directed out of lower vents to cool passenger compartment and out of defrost vents only when defrost is needed.  I honestly only use AC when it is hot and raining outside in the summer.  If it is sunny regardless of temp the top is down.  And when it is hot and raining the AC certainly helps to keep the condensation off the windshield.  I have gone back and forth in my mind if I really need AC.  Bottom line is I only want it in 2 situation.  When it is cold outside to defrost windshield and when it is hot and raining to keep condensation off windshield.

Manxman, why did I want to add heat to my Spyder? Because I can, and because it extends the season. I can't fault a guy for AC either. Wish I had it this past week!

I drive my car as much as possible, top down. There are times in the northeast when you can start out 85 and sunny and end up 55 and raining.

So I added a top and side curtains. They leak, but keep it mostly dry. I drilled holes in the floor to let water out, and sealed a bunch of areas where it was coming in.

And I added an Eberspacher heater. With a thermostat. It blows 150 degree air toward both seats. Total weight is 15 pounds or less. Burns 3 oz. an hour. Driving solo, tonneau up, the heater makes it comfortable to about 35 degrees out. With hat and gloves of course. I've driven in a cold rain, 280 miles, at night, to get to the Pumpkin Run. And I would do it again, because the heat and top make it possible.

So a very small weight penalty, but a much improved comfort level to my driving season. And isn't driving what it's all about?

Sorry this is late Rusty, did you want to know what I'm running for a stereo system in my Speedster?
