Did everyone see this one go thru auction this weekend in Santa Monica! Almost $40K for a car that didn't run...wow! Crazy me thought this was going to be a deal!

Well, that is something. Amazing how the bids can get raised when the psychology gets going. Obviously, it's the basis for a good car, but it will need a lot of attention. It's a shame to see it like that, but there have been worse.
Looks like prices for these cars are going up in general.
Perhaps the buyer missed the little fact that it's a replica and thinks he scored a huge deal ....
That's about the right price for that car. The top is actually in good shape as is the rear window, has bumper overriders (Big $$$), very nice interior (German Square Weave with Coco mats), under dash umbrella emergency brake, 356 steering column, nice steering wheel, wide 5 conversion or possibly ordered that way, looks like a CB 2110 and I bet it runs, correct dash knobs, correct windshield misters, rear reflectors, Marchal driving lights, you can barely see it but that's a heater valve in front of the shifter on the tunnel. Somebody either paid a premium at build time or put some $$$ into it after. Just needs a little elbow grease and love.
I know that IM ROADIES are at a premium, especially considering that(OFTEN) the price of a new one CAN greatly influence the resale value of USED/PREVIOUSLY OWNED pricing. Was definitely a pricey build as loaded with options(RUST S REFERENCE ABOVE) so could easily be in 80K(PLUS) range NEW today.
The things we do to make a replica look it's part!
I have owned two IM's and I own an IM now but I can't get my head around the valuation systems of some buyers or is it just that the coolaid served is really laced in those auctions

It is a nice ROADSTER and IMs do catch a premium, apparently,......some seem to pay a bit ABOVE market and some catch a BARGAIN now and then. Could be some master mechanic can spend 30 hours of his own time and make a profit(?) ....clean it up real nice and/or have a great ROADSTER for himself or his pal(?). Some might find additional value in that it is already REGISTERED/TITLED in CA.
BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER! and the COOL AID is tasting good to many..
Coolaid usually means your being led to the slaughter just saying

A WISE MAN once said, "EASIER said when you already own an AMAZING IM ROADSTER".....some of us dare taste the COOL AID as our per only chance to own such a vehicle and some suffer the daggers in their quest!
Let's get it right, it Kool-Aid .....definitely not Cool

Ray you know what it is is all these Californians are selling their homes for large amounts of money then purchasing IMs causing the price to go up and up. Now Henry's got it in his head that he has something really special so he has raised his prices. As a direct result of this price action the IM has become the 356 for the discerning rich snob. It all started with real estate going through the roof in California and has caused a lot of hostility towards Californians as IMs have become unaffordable for the common man.
I was once an economics professor and was terminated for my views. They are, nonetheless, accurate.

BUT.....it is the DOT.COM techno boom that caused the REAL ESTATE BOOM.....that caused the IM BOOM
Me thinks this discussion needs to go BOOM and be terminated...
...but it's just getting interesting.
'Interesting' is in the eye of the reader!
Since I started this thread - I'll try to end it too! Henry and the team at IM unquestionably (my opinion) make the nicest roadster / speedster on the market! Increasingly - they are also holding their value better than anything else out there and we're actually starting to see appreciation on these early to mid 2000's cars...wow!

WHAT HE SAID
Is that the car that sold at Carlisle this year for $30K?
