Hey everyone! Sorry to leave you non-Facebookers in such suspense. I forgot to bring along my SOC password out on the road (I never have to log in at home anymore and I forgot about that little detail) and I was busy enough and tired enough every night not to task my memory bank to retrieve it.

Regardless, I made it home safe and sound (about 2:00pm today CDST) thanks to many of you guys keeping me company and helping out with my two pretty minor snafus. If you haven't heard, they were minor that prolonged my schedule by just one day. All things considered, I was quite pleased.

The last leg today, being in relatively familiar surroundings, and traffic being much easier allowed me to think about how I will present my oddyssey. Give me a few hours or more, a little rest in a more comfortable chair and some photo downloading etc. and I will tell you all about my adventure.

In short it was extremely fun, exciting and nerve racking at times, but an overall satisfactory trip away.

Looks for the post(s) soon.

For you guys that did care and wondered where I was at times, THANKS BIG TIME! It was always reassuring that someone was looking out for me, even from many miles away.

Oh, the weather here is just lousy...fog, rain, cold but not freezing and still plenty of snow on the ground.

Total miles...2,476 give or take a few, I'll make a final tallye.

Stan, thanks again for the hospitality and tuning work! It was a pleasant but welcome layover.

I filled up just south of Rockford and it was 27 something again...

same as the past 3-4 fill-ups.

I guess Betty must have liked that rarified air. Ever since eastern NM, she's dropped down into that range. Or, it's the ethanol (sorry corn-boy)! The weather sucked, especially the closer I got to home, but I took it nice and slow buy had a hard time skirting large amounts of standing water from the melt-off going on up here. Still plenty of snow up here!

Now, while I have some of your attention. Anyone have a clue about a mystery, periodic clunking at the driver rear side (my hearing is bad, but I would say it is coming from the wheel area?). I seem to get it on occasion on making a turn, but I do seem to recall it happening in just a forward direction as well. Stan heard it also, but his work for the day was done and we didn't investigate it any further last night. I heard it again a few times today on the last leg. Do you think it could it be a brake issue?

Rich---thanks for letting us all ride along with you on your trip---what an adventure!  You are one brave soul to launch in an unknown car with no shakedown cruise but it turneed out great thanks to SOC friends along the way.

When I rode lots of miles around the country on my BMW motorcycle I carried a booklet published by the BMW bikers club.  It had hundreds of names listed according to state, of members who could help with mechanican issues, loan you tools, provide a place to work of spend the night. Too bad we don't have such a list---maybe that could be an addition to the SOC ---I'd think this would be as valuable as the annual calendar.  Fortunately we have great folks who will step up like you experienced.

Welcome home and congrats on scoring a great Bug!
