The listing does say "engine replaced" so the video could have been before/after that?

Great color combo, I wonder what the year of the build is and how many miles on the body if they're listing "new engine" miles?

It's has to be 15 years old.  It does not have roll up windows like all later IM's.  Nice car for sure. 

That's clearly a pan-based car despite what they say about the frame.  That would make it pretty old.  Note the side curtains as well.  I can't see that going for $40k unless the buyer is severely uninformed.

You guys have a better eye than me.  Pan would make it 1987 or older.  You think he would really lie about the frame?  Would be nice to know original build date.

Pan based for sure.  Look at the poor fit of the carpets.

That is an early IM, with side curtains.  Probably one of the California made cars, before the move to Vancouver.

To me the foot box and tunnel look different than the new/used cars on the IM website. But I'm no IM expert.

Don't the newer IM's have a pedal assembly similar to real 356's.  This one has the standard VW setup

I doubt they would willfully lie. They most likely don't know the difference. They most likely saw IM on the car and assumed every IM has the custom chassis.  Aside from the poor fitting carpets, it's a great looking car.

If the car is in San Jose I can go look at it. 

I sent them an inquiry, but haven't heard anything.

I know San Jose very well and there are only a couple neighborhoods with no curbs and traffic.  That is not one I recognize.

True.  It's one of the nicer pan-based IMs I've seen.  I hope they're just uninformed (nice way to say ignorant) rather than willfully dishonest.  I'd hate to see some poor guy who's lovestruck by the shape pay modern IM money and wind up disappointed.

What a joke.  Using a 6 year old video.  Bet the video was taken with the old engine.  Red engine on the grainy pictures is likely the recently installed engine.  Kind of scary.  If someone is looking for a used IM probably smarter going through Henry (like I did).

According to the guy who posted the video 6 years ago the car was in Vancouver, BC at the time. Someone posted a question 3 months ago and asks if the car is for sale and he responded that he has two more cars for sale but doesn't say the green car is for sale

The first photo, of the front of the car, is taken from the video as it's in the same position and orientation. The rest of the photos may be more recent but they appear to be taken at a garage shop. Likely when the new engine was put in because the engine in the video is not the same as the engine in the pictures.

This looks like it's been updated over the years.  It has the modern IM style verticals aluminum trim along the carpet when the door is opened. 

I emailed the owner and pointed out our observations and he said we're correct. The car is a 1977 early edition IM. He bought it with a 1964 Porsche engine and replaced it with the Scat engine.  He had someone post this vehicle and several other vehicles on various websites because he is relocating and selling everything off. He says he will make the necessary changes as he is reviewing the ads on his phone.

Thanks Bob.  Got my driver's license in 77.  His price may be a little ambitious.  But, a nice old IM restoration.
