IM pan based cars

would anyone know what year IM stopped using Vw pan chassis? thanks

According to the IM web site tubular steel chassis were developed in 1985, so I guess prior to 1985 they were VW pan based.

Mine is an 84 and it's a pan car. I believe someone on this forum has an 84 tube frame car, so think the switch was mid-year.

I thought my tube frame IM was an 84 but its actually an 86. I was once told that 86 was the year they started producing the tube framed cars.

thanks for all the help, the reason why I'd like to know is that I have the vin # of an IM roadster and was trying to figure out what year it is, was curious because it has A/C and is pan based and I thought that was kind of rare as I know the paned based ones anre early and I dind't think A/C was an option then but I guess it could have been added. Its at a place where it might be for sale and they don't have any info on it yet. the vin is : 12355

What type of seating are in your 70's IMs?

I am looking at one with 914 seats. Not quite the vintage look I'm looking for and support isn't so great.

Cut the headrest (only fiberglass) off and the 914 seats look close to VS seats.
