Hi there,

my IM shall be shipped on Jul, 1st and will arrive in Germany (hopefully) on Jul, 15th. Now it's time to think about some parts needed:

- Can anybody tell me which kind of headlights are used? I have to change, because sealed beam is not allowed in Germany.

- I will need a km/h speedo - IM used Porsche 914 speedos, right?

- Car just has a tonneau cover - perhaps would be interested in soft top roof and side curtains including all hardware needed

- would like to install the originally used turn signals - the high ones, not the flat ones the car actually has.

Any help highly appriciated.

Best regards,

Mario

You don't need the whole headlight assembly.  The one Marty used is correct for the Speedster back then but most replicas use the VW Bug assembly which has the parking light in the assembly.  You can just replace the bulb/lense part with a7" round Hella Vision H4 part.  If you want the optional city lights version is great for congested cities.  You'll want the ECE vs the SAE/Dot version (which probably isn't even sold in Germany).  $45 each. You might want to rewire for higher voltage feed to light using a relay but but they stock ones are same voltage and current draw as ones currently in car.

Most IMs probably used replica 356 gauges from Brazil if older model (or China crap if newer or replaced recently).  Looking at pictures of your dash it was redone with 914 gauges. Just find used 914 European KM Speedo - replacing with anything else means reducing hole size in fiberglass dash. You can get the face rescreened too - probably same cost as used gauge.

You doesn't even have a top frame?  Looks like there might be a frame under tonneau in 2nd ebay photo.  If not you'll need frame pieces, tensioners, header bow, top, and snaps to match tonneau snaps.  Since each cars windshield placement and top is unique you probably end up making side curtains.  You might look at the scissors top assembly from seller on ebay in Mexico.  Someone on SOC recently bought one and will report on how it works out on his car.

Here's article on changing out face on a 914 speedo that might help if you want to go that route.  Additionally you'll want to add the oil temperature gauge inplace of the upper blank spot (was emergency brake indicator) on the gas gauge to right of other gauges.  Its covered in article.

Might be cheaper to order parts and send to me along with airline ticket to Germany.  I'll hand deliver and help install - ya got bier?  I want to take one of the Viking Rhine/Mosel River cruises anyway.
