IM pan/tube frame

Did the IM cars orginally use a VW pan, and at some time switch to a tube frame? Does anyone know when this switchover (if it happened) took place?

Yes, while in business in southern California the original IM Speedsters were built on Vw chassis. I have a 1978 circa IM. I think a couple other posters here have Vw chassis IM's. I might be wrong but I believe Henry's dad produced them in Costa Mesa between 1975 through 1979. He sold the molds to CMC and moved his business to Canada sometime in the early 80's. I was told once set up in Vancouver IM developed their tube frames. Apologies if I got the dates and facts wrong here.

I think the switch over to the tube frame happened around 1988

I thought that the tubular frames started in 1990.
