Since some of you cats are a few years ahead of me, you might know where I can conjure up some cans like this:

Except that I'd like Gulf, Esso, Mobilgas and maybe a couple other cans. I intend to use them, hollowed out, as the basis for some conversation-piece, shine-down light fixtures in the garage. The rougher the patina, the better for me. I'm not looking for holes and flakes of rust, but weathered is perfect.

I also would like to find some quart-sized metal cans, about four of them, for use over my old oak desk in the garage. I'll be doing carburetor and smaller stuff on that desk, and think that some LED fixtures suspended from below my bookshelf would be pretty effin' neat.

It's a work in progress, but the old garage is coming along nicely.

Cory, my Dad had some oil containers that were, believe it or not, glass jars stashed in the garage in the house in North Syracuse where I grew up. They even had screw on metal spouts. I wish I still had them. This is REALLY old guy stuff that probably most people would not recognize. I guess this came to mind due to your quest and the fact that I will be celebrating my Dad's 119th birthday in a few days. I'm reminded of Kenny Rogers' song (The Gambler) where talks about "knowin' what to throw away and knowin' what to keep". I kick myself sometimes when I think about what I have thrown away.

Rich, I can't even watch that show without mentally ticking off the dollar bills in my head. I'd be broke if I put them on the project. :)

I have this little OCD thing. Tell me I'm not alone in the Universe -- the first thing I do when I go out to the garage is sweep the floor and clean off the bench. Even if I'm only going out there to have a cup of coffee (from the espresso machine on the workbench), I put anything out of place back where it should be, then I do whatever I went out there for.

I waited 40 years for a garage of my own -- not a rental, not a place for Teresa to put her things ... I dunno. It's almost like an investment in my sanity or something. Wiring up some oil can lights, hanging from simple, quarter-inch stainless conduit will be perfect for me.

And there's a Speedster in the middle of that garage ...
