I know that the 1.8 Audi motor is not at the top of everybody's wish list.....but a nice car nonetheless
Beehives were not used in ‘59...

One would have to say that FUCHS, AC, 1.8 Audi motor, and a number of this car's features were not in play back in 59
Dale Bates old IM.
That Audi engine is turbocharlot s of power. Very nice car indeed. Someone is going to be fortunate to score this ride.
The height of the engine causes the CV joints to be stressed a lot.

I think the CV joints will be ok since Henry uses the beefy CV joints used on VW buses and type 3 cars with the Audi engines. These CV joints can tolerate greater angles. Problem is the boots wear out faster which if left unchecked destroys the CV joints. Ask me how I know. I was going to try off road CV boots but ended up selling my car. IM6 cars have the same problem. Air cooled cars and suby cars do not have the problem with severe CV joint angles hence no boot problems. Audi engines sit very high and forward.

Dale had two beautiful IMs that Henry built for him. This one, called 'Maus', after the exterior colour, and his previous black one.
I believe Dale now has a Karmann Ghia.
correct, that does look like dales IM, it was a VW color, the interior was a creamy reddish color called tomato soup
Yep. They don't show the interior, but looking at the leather on the head rests, it's that 'rough' leather than Dale ordered for that car. It really is a sweet colour combination, and I know Dale did not want to get rid of it when he did.

I out-smarted the CV issue...I pulled out the SIX CYLINDERand put in a 1200CC VW motor from a 59 Bug and now no more CV boot issues. EASY-PEAZY!
Switch from IRS to swing axle and that'll make it even "better," Banzai.

I took it one step better and put in a straight axle from a 1989 YUGO with lever shocks and an automatic TORSION button for performance driving! My psychiatrist made the recommendation on the axle so I cannot take full credit....but the torsion button was all me.....
Actually, some have mentioned a noise with that angle till they got hot like a few miles
Interior colour hot tomale
thats not dales car, his interior was a memorable red...tomato soup
Beautiful car, a lot to like on that one. Love the distressed leather interior. Everything but the out of place strereo; should have been vintage.

It is. The interior was (and is) "ball-glove" leather.

Presto Change-o.
Some color correction brings the photo closer to what the original colors probably were. Fluorescent light is the worst for trying to show accurate color. A good thing to remember whenever you do photos of your car.
