I'm the seller.  Regarding the optimistic HP:  BaT staff writes the copy and that was paraphrased from something approximating, "I don't know the HP.  IM lists their base engine output at 75~88hp in period literature, but I don't have a build sheet.  The engine is original to the car and unopened."  This is the same car I bought from lakeflyer a little over a year ago.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Tyler

Wow ! just had the opportunity to witness the finish of this BaT no reserve auction. Interesting finish it was. Unlike Ebay, BaT works the finish differently. The auction got to three minutes left at $22,600. Then...a bid came in at $22,850 and the countdown clock reset to 2:59. More bids came in the same way and each time the clock reset to 2:59 minutes remaining. It did this seven times with each bid prompting another reset. Final price was $25,250.

You did ok with that little investment, Tyler. :-)

I called the hp estimate "optimistic" because a stock 1600 will normally go to between 50-55 hp on a dyno, and with dual carbs, matching distributor and a freer flowing exhaust will hit about 60-62 hp. To hit 75hp a 1600 would need an aftermarket cam with enough duration and lift to let it rev to 5,000 or 5500 rpm, and to register 90hp it would need to rev to 6,000 (or a little more) with power, and depending on the size of the intake openings in the heads, maybe even a little port work.

Don't get me wrong, a dual carbed 1600 is a fun little engine; it's just not 75 or 90hp of fun....Al

Now my IM of the same vintage, came with a stroker 2110 twin dells not sure of the cam because when i bought it the original engine came in a box with a pulled stud and had a fresh 1776 fitted, who ever got the car might be in for a pleasant surprize, not saying Henry put the same engine in all the cars of that year but I'm sure it was an option, have to pull a head to find out for sure

Thanks all!  I provided your feedback to serious bidders on the phone and told them to assume stock 1600 hp, 50-60, and that way no disappointments.  I had a dyno lined up if it was a deciding factor, but it wasn't.  Auction surpassed my expectations, and the final bidder was very informed pre-purchase.  Overall, my experience with BaT was very good.  Thanks guys and gals.  I'll encourage the next owner to participate in the community.

P.S. I still don't think its a bone stock 1600.
