Someone will score a very nice car.
Nice car, but vinyl interior in the engine compartment???
Mine is almost identical to this one, right down to the diamond tuft vinyl ,except I have the original porsche gauges.the seats are original to the car as mine. lots of padding, good bolster under the knees, sides and back hold you in place, really well designed
The seller is rather optimistic in the horsepower estimate...
And Ted- those shrouds are a Puma item only. What all the VW hotrodders like about Thing shrouds is that for 1 year only (I think) there were no heat ducts .
That's the old-school OEM filler/breather. There's a 3/4-ish hose that goes through the tin and down to the underside of the car.
I'm the seller. Regarding the optimistic HP: BaT staff writes the copy and that was paraphrased from something approximating, "I don't know the HP. IM lists their base engine output at 75~88hp in period literature, but I don't have a build sheet. The engine is original to the car and unopened." This is the same car I bought from lakeflyer a little over a year ago. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks,
Tyler
Tyler.
I am seriously interested, please dialog me this evening with a reasonable price.

Wow ! just had the opportunity to witness the finish of this BaT no reserve auction. Interesting finish it was. Unlike Ebay, BaT works the finish differently. The auction got to three minutes left at $22,600. Then...a bid came in at $22,850 and the countdown clock reset to 2:59. More bids came in the same way and each time the clock reset to 2:59 minutes remaining. It did this seven times with each bid prompting another reset. Final price was $25,250.
You did ok with that little investment, Tyler. :-)
I never did like ebay, will you win in the frenzy of the last minute, this seems fairer rather than a loto before the gun goes off.
If you don't like how ebay does it, get some free "snipe" software and program your maximum bid. It'll go as high as it needs to, and no further.
I've done pretty well with it.

I called the hp estimate "optimistic" because a stock 1600 will normally go to between 50-55 hp on a dyno, and with dual carbs, matching distributor and a freer flowing exhaust will hit about 60-62 hp. To hit 75hp a 1600 would need an aftermarket cam with enough duration and lift to let it rev to 5,000 or 5500 rpm, and to register 90hp it would need to rev to 6,000 (or a little more) with power, and depending on the size of the intake openings in the heads, maybe even a little port work.
Don't get me wrong, a dual carbed 1600 is a fun little engine; it's just not 75 or 90hp of fun....Al
A snipe tool made me many $$$ back at the beginning of this century. All on ebay and most deals selling aircraft engines for US bucks.
Now my IM of the same vintage, came with a stroker 2110 twin dells not sure of the cam because when i bought it the original engine came in a box with a pulled stud and had a fresh 1776 fitted, who ever got the car might be in for a pleasant surprize, not saying Henry put the same engine in all the cars of that year but I'm sure it was an option, have to pull a head to find out for sure
P.S. I still don't think its a bone stock 1600.
You may be right, Tyler, but unless you know for sure...
Glad it worked out.
We will be cleaning a few minor things up, but this one is going to be driven. My wife is very excited to get "her" car!
Am I reading this right, David? Are you the new owner?
Great guy and very informed. Congrats!
You've come to the right place.
