Rick,

I'm still looking for a supplier of the dropin windows, Lexan, Plexiglass, anything. I dropped Russ at fibersteel another e mail asking when his long awaited windows would be available. No Answer ever recieved, again! Also David Salvato had come up with some, saw them at Knotts and verbally ordered a pair, no promise. Also just read of another SOC poster promising some, Nada so far. Rick, when you sell your 78 IM, we'll trade side curtains,eh? Anyway, very slick solution Henry has come up with.

Bruce,

Make your own, man! You can do it, and it really isn't that hard. I made a set for the hard-top. You'll need to mock up what you want with cardboard or better yet 1/4" plywood, then use the template as a pattern for the plexiglass. You can seal the windsheild edge one of two ways- either with a piece of self-adhesive weatherstripping for the windshield frame, or with some edging with a "bulb" type weatherstripping attached for the side-curtain itself. Both types of weatherstripping and edging are available at McMaster/Carr.

The thing is, if you are trying to make the car more weather tight, the side curtain isn't your biggest problem- the top is. Where the top drops down to meet the body of the car behind the doors forms a very effective scoop which dumps air and water directly on your shoulder at speed. The front edge by the windshield is actually pretty tight if the cavas is on the inside of the windshield frame.

I modified my top in the area behind the doors with some trimming and an extra seam. I marked what I wanted, took it to an upholstery shop, and had them make the changes. It cost about $50, and a bit of concern about screwing up the top. It works great now, and seals nearly as well as the hard-top with my plexiglass side-curtains.

However- What Henry has here is really just too cool. It should look and work pretty close to perfectly.
Stan,

You are right about the main draft culprit being the rear of the side curtain. I do get some rain and draft in at the bottom of the side curtain in front by the windshield, that and moisture coming in from the fiberglass bow but I'm going to put some thin foam weather seal in there to see if that seal off the bow. I might be my own worst enemy with the top bow as I use the Rain-X which causes the rain droplets to move up the windhiels when driving over 50 MPH! Can't win!

If I read this right, some of you with IMs have leaks where the side window meets the windshield frame? I guess it must be a bit common if Henry is addressing it. Funny cuz my only leaks are where the windshield uprights meet the windshield top and there is a small "V" where the top doesn't quite seal. Ron
Ron, note that this is on the Speedster windshield, not Roadster. Henry said that some IM Speedster owners wanted something other than the rubber on the WS post (similar to a Roadster) so Henry came up with this slick idea and it should solve the appearance issue along with keeping water out.
