I'm always eager to LEARN and RE-LEARN and today's jaunt with the IM6 was a good lesson. Both Henry AND SUPERTEC PERFORMANCE suggested to me that this motor, like any custom build, has a SWEET SPOT of happiness and function. Indeed, this car is most happy between 2200 and 6000 RPM.....it is NOT fond of anything below 2200.
Certainly 1st and 2nd gear are necessary but not-eventful and NO fun at all......but one must start somewhere! Once you hit 3rd gear...the happy TORQUE MONSTER appears an this f*cker flies with energy. You have full immediate power and torque thru 4th and 5th.....I could be cruising at 75 in 5th and take off and pass almost anything in front of me at WILL....and very TIGHT/GLUED response.
After a bit of cruising, things started to come a bit easier as I became more familiar with its traffic/highway disposition and skill set. I needed to put aside my earlier ownership of my 87 911 which was an out of the showroom 3.2 with OEM design. This was not that at all....apparently a given design with its valve/cam/crank/and stroke parameters with TRPLE THROAT WEBERS is a different animal AND I LOVED it! New TOYS for OLD BOYS.......
Did have a bit of fun on H2 with one of those 600HP Dodge CHALLENGER R/T's as we had our fun but although I could keep up, I was not going over 100 mph as it is really NOT fun in a SPEEDSTER. Having power all thru 3rd/4th/5th was the kick and fun but NO NEED to chase land speed as methinx that is NOT what this car is about. Of course he left me in the dust as he ripped thru 120 plus.......
In any case, wanted to share my appreciation of the car and a lesson learned. PLEASE BE SAFE.
