But when was the first 356 speedster replica "splashed"? And by who?
david: most excellent question there, as I have wondered this myself. Someone here must know when and where the first FG replica Speedster was hatched. We should raise a toast to this shrewd fellow.
My understanding is that the actual date and time of the first replica speedster produced has remained a tight goverment secret.

A few years ago I had researched the IM Omega/Italia since a friend of mine in NJ happened across one. Discovered that in 1975 Frank Reisner (Henry's dad) produced a Speedster prototype in LA. In 1976-79 Automobili Intermechanica produced 600 cars before selling the molds and tooling to CMC (although I suspect it was FF). Rumor was it was splashed from a rental Speedster that had once been wrecked and in-expertly repaired - hence a non-asymetry still present in current bodies (might be urban legend though). I'd love to see some early photos from Henry's scrapbook! Wonder if he has old 16mm family films he could show at Carlisle?
