There were articles in the VW mags about narrowing both the IRS and swing axle rear suspension. The swing axle came in various lengths from the factory for different model years and most parts interchange directly or with just a bit of machining. I had to pull the wheels farther into the wells on my car by selecting a bunch of various factory made bits and pieces. The narrowing proceedure for the IRS is more involved but can be done at a price.

You should scan the ShopTalkForum under suspension or transaxle headings for all of the info ever written, It's a great source. Other than that, The Shrine is another good place to start your search. Both of these sites deal in the real thing. No speculation or rumors or "My friend once said that . . . " The guys are hard core and have dominated the racing/performance scene forever and know what they're talking about.

Consider them as a whole bunch of Jake Raby's! Of course, you also have to account for a whole bunch of, sometimes, conflicting information, but at least it's all information that is usable. There are a number of way to accomplish the same task, and they know them all.

Here you go:

shoptalkforums.com/

www.cal-look.com/

You LOVE them both! Just warn your wife, kids and/or your significant other that you're gonna be "busy" for a while before you hit either of these.

There's SO MUCH information/knowledge/gossip/history/answers/etc. on these two sites that you'll be there FOREVER.

You'll probably die right there in your computer chair it'll take so long to go through it all. Of course, then THIS site will be nothing but, "Where can I purchase a hard top for my Speedster that doesn't leak?" because all of the tech info will already be known . . .

:)
