info needed on make-of my speedster

hi i own a speedster but i.d.plate is chipped off only thing left is gold color with thin black line close to edge of plate.plate is on drivers side doorjam revited to car about 3 inches sqaure.car is reg as 68vw bug does anyone know who made body i'm in honolulu hawaii so i'm sure not that many were shipped here in 1970-75 aloha mike

CMC supplied a gold aluminum id plate about 3x1.5" had thin black line frame around edges. Said:

Classic SPEEDSTER
Classic Motor Carriages
Miami, FL
and
Identification Model
S xxxx

where the xxxx was the body number stamped into plate. Both the id and model had a square black line box around them. It was up to builder to apply - it could be put anywhere.

'70-75 would be too early for most any popular manufacturers though. IM developed mold in '75 timeframe and sold off in 76-80 to Fiberfab/overlapping with CMC in late 80's til about shut down in 1992. Post a picture of your id plate --- I sent you photo of CMC one I had on file. Here's is link to the silver/black FF id plates that are still available:
