the hole was already cut in firewall, looks like with hole saw when motor was out.
i stopped the air hose at the firewall so that there is that gap betwen firewall and engine intake. should be good for freeway driving as thats when my gets warm.anything will help im thinking.
bill dont try the aluminum air hose for dryers, too close to starter wires, dont ask me how i know.
Bob,

I am not familiar with the bottom of a pan car but it seems like someone (Bruce Gordon) ran some kind of 3-4" hose from behind the front wheel wells, under the doors and then turned the rear end of the hose up to direct the air into the opening. He did not connect the rear of the hoses to anything directly into the firewall hole.

His car is/was extreamly low, he had a 2332 with a dry sump and autocrossed the schiest out of it. He said the additional air delivered in this way worked very well.

Just a thought.
Bob I've had a 4" alum. flex duct in for a few years now. They do help.
It terminates in front of the firewall hole so air can still come in around the opening. One thing I've found is that these ducts scoop up leaves and such along the way. I have an Empi type screen over the fan housing intake and it does catch trash sucked up the pipe. I've gotten into the habit of reaching behind the housing and brushing off the screen every time I check the oil.

Bill, Great question . We mounted a tube style anemometer to measure the air speed velocity beneath the car. We then used a very big fan to simulate the air velocity beneath the car. Found the perfect mounting location. Then we worked on the mounting angle. To capture more air we added the tab. Yes the Naca duct is great for not disturbing the aero of the car on the top side. On the bottom underside there are lots of nooks and crannies the air flow pattern changes . The flow is not clean so you have to find the sweet spot.
That certainly works; I did it some years ago after reading Gene Berg's technical papers. Instead of opening up a hole in the firewall I opened a hole in the rpassenger's side of the front engine apron tin (the one that mounts over the transaxle and motor) and connected a hose to it and then going to an aluminum scoop that was located in the torsion bar area on the passenger's side. Seems to work well.
