Troy's recent post with his video of getting back on the skateboard inspired me to get back into surfing and hopefully lose some weight. Plus it just gives me another excuse to pull the Speedster out of the garage and head to the beach.

I'll post some GoPro surf video when I get past the 'fat-ass-falling-off-the-board' to getting my stoke back on my longboard!!!

Couldn't pass the opportunity to take a few pics of the coastline as I got close to home. Here are a couple of pics on my way home from Doheny Beach (nice easy surf to practice on).

I got a staph infection that could have only come from the 10,000 gallons of sewage a day that drains into the water their at Doho. After three rounds of very serious antibiotics that nearly killed me I somehow lost that urge to paddle out and be one with the ocean!

As of late the urge seems to be returning. I just might take a day and head down their myself. Tower 12!

You guys are killing this body surfer now living in central Illinois! The only reason I'd move back to SoCal would be for the beach...and a chance to cruise with you guys!

It is literally 99 degrees here and with any luck it will warm up. We have a pool but the water is so warm you don't cool off much by jumpin' in. Our H2O options are limited to pools, a few streams and the Illinois River which is muddy and plagued with 20 lb. jumping carp.

I'm heading for the shower...

Yeseree Bob we got it made out here in SoCal! For those of you unfamiliar with the surf scene here in SoCal San Onofre is a world renowned surf spot with a disabled nuclear power plant above that uses ocean water to cool it's reactor core. It's been disabled because the Edison Company doesn't want to spend the $$$ to fix it. But what's nice is that in winter time the water at San Onofre is nice and warm! Also the fishing their and nearby is tremendous as the nuclear waste has caused the fish to morph into much larger creatures far surpassing the 20lb carp Bob is talking about and that have been known to rip large chunks out of the side of boats passing by... but only on occasion.

10,000 gallons of sewage a day at Doheny or nuclear waste at San Onofre. Out West we have choices!

Alright I'm just kidding about all of that. Just having a little fun. Oh there may be a little sewage and a little nuclear waste but the California Coastal Commission assures us that the parts per million isn't enough to have a negative impact on the human body. So come on out and enjoy sunny Southern California while it lasts!

Sun Fun Stay Play! Oh Boy!

... Sorry Jim I had to have a little fun with this.

Great responses!

@Gerd - paddle boards are too sedate for me.

@Rusty - I initially went to SanO. After such a loooooong layoff from surfing, I was so out of condition that by the time I paddled to the outside set, my arms were useless. So I flopped round a while before heading back to shore. Paddled by a couple of small sand sharks (<2ft) and they swam away. Guess they figured I had the 'right-of-tonnage'!

Jim, I find driving through Santiago Canyon heading towards Laguna Canyon and turning either left or right at the beach watching the setting sun is a dream very close to happening. I've been through the canyon several times and finally found a good route for an extended Sunday drive. By the way, where did you get your driving lights and headlite grill. Thanx

Hey Warren! Good to see you on here! Hope all is well!

Its a process getting back into surf condition. My arms & shoulders still ache after even a short session on the water. Plus, I don't exactly pop-up on the board anymore. More of a two step process, get up on one knee (the one without arthritis), then up on my feet!

You still racing around the tar-mac?

Jim

I just left LAX yesterday after spending two weeks there. Weather was fantastic.

We were in LV at SEMA then spent a few days in Pomona at the NHRA racing.

But the guys I travelled with were team owners and I was a little limited to tourist sight visiting!

I did make contact with one Speedster in the car park at Hollywood and Highland.

It made my day.

i have Posted a Thread on the car. It was cream with a black clothe top. Small driving lights etc. I have the tag/plate number that started with 6DMS...

I will send you a message with the full plate/tag number.

And enjoy the surfing, hope you don't bury a rail to often..

Hi Bernie!

Hope you had a great visit State-side! I wasn't able to make it to SEMA this year but I'm sure its just as much sensory over-load as ever. Maybe next year.

Also glad the weather was cooperative with your trip (clear skies 92 - 93 degrees)! Hope our paths cross sometime in the near future. Keep in touch!

P.S. - my rails are buried just by me sitting my fat ass on the board!
