Installing a case breather box

I just installed my Empi breather box that has 3 lines. I have noticed that others have ran a line to the carbs. Is this needed, and if so, how do I attach (I think this is done for suction)? Can holes be drilled in top of box for more breathing? I am running a 2176 with Dual Weber 40's.

the stock three exits out of the breather box are for crankcase and either carbs or valve covers.

there is a fair amount of crankcase pressure on my engine (2.1L T4), so i added head vents (instead of valve cover vents that have always leaked for me)

even with all this - i've noticed oil dripping out the breather box. i plan to add a catch can and modify the breather box to add an "exit" out the bottom and run that to a drainable catch can (something like this would work fine: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1472/)

the idea around venting th carbs is to burn the oil fumes, not anything to do with the pressure (ie: sucking from the carbs)

so, if you want to go to town: breather box, head vents, crankcase vent, carb vents and catch can.

Cory Drake has a pretty slick breather system on his T-4 Hoopty, but I couldn't find it in the 347,271 photos he has in his photo file. Maybe he could re-post those pictures for you.

Steve, i just don't like the idea of oil vapors inletting into the carbs. I'd suggest the case and valve covers. A little JB Weld on the inside of the fittings and a couple days to cure. BrāKleen first, apply the fitting and goop the JB in and smooth it with a rubber-gloved finger. Vent the covers out of the way of the valves, like with an external bung with barbed or threaded points to attach your line.

Mango, I have the barrel-type drainable tank. It's behind my passenger's seat. It's doing wonders for me.

Really didn't want to feed oil into my carbs. I currently have the three hoses hooked up as follows.

Right hole on breather is to right valve cover
Left hole on breather is to left valve cover
front hole on breather is to oil filler tube

Do I need to hook to carb?

Will it breath better if I drill holes in top of breather box above the foam? or did Empi give enough breathing just around the top of the box with lid on?

Get rid of the foam. If it becomes oil saturated it can impede proper ventilation. Use stainless steel pot scrubbers as oil traps instead.
