If someone knows.

I want to replace those rubber strips that go inside a channel along the bottom sides of a VS. They're 4-5 feet long---you know the ones. Has anyone done this? Pulling the old ones out will be easy but do you just jam the new ones into the channel or do they need to be installed from the back side of the channel?

Does a heat gun help? How do you shape the ends---the new ones are just cut straight across. The ones on the car are shaped so the ends are sort of pointed and fit into the ends of the channel.

This close to Carlisle I don't want to begin a "tarbaby project."

Thanks for sharing your experience with this.

Kirk once said to me "just drive the damned thing" but that's so hard to do!

I found that the easiest way is to order (believe it or not) bumper rubber from a 356C. It's too long but can be cut easily, and fits perfectly. It is also much softer than the cheaper stuff, and is reeeeally easy to fit. Since the weather has warmed up, make sure you cut it a little long to allow for shrinkage in winter. George Costanza recommends it ;-)

I just re-read your post, and it sounds like you already have the replacement pieces from VS. Sorry for being no help.
Jack, I've had mine in and out in my VS and they are a bitch and really hard on a cold day. Like Lane said, better to cut them long and a little dry silicone spray helps in the channel. Mine were a little short and the ends would pop out. The ends are cut on an angle and that rubber would contract in cold weather, and boink out came the pointy little end. I think the technical term is "Shrinkage" Thanks George. If I ever repaint the car I think I would get rid of most of that side trim. Safe trip to Pa.
Why was I 100% certain that Vince would bring KY to the discussion - LOL!

Just for the record, people think nothing of someone buying a quart of cable lube.

But when you buy KY jelly by the quart there's always some smarty pants in the checkout line who is curious about your future activities.
