If you're considering a new car you might think about budgeting for special instruments. I ordered a VDO Porsche Carrera 160 MPH speedo and matching 8,000 RPM tach, a size-matched VDO 904 tri-combo gauge (fuel, oil temperature, and oil pressure), and a color-matched VDO quartz clock with sweep second hand from Palo Alto Speedometer for my new IM Speedster The insturment warning lights are all correct for a 356A (oil pressure, high beam, alternator, turn indicator). I got an email from Henry saying he had received them and they are SPECTACULAR!

The only problem is the cost - about $1,180 for the four instruments. Probably worth it if, like me, you're planning a car you're going to keep for a long time. Note also that the speedo/tach/combo gauges are the original Porsche size, e.g., they are smaller in diameter than the Brazilian replica gauges so a direct swap in a car with Brazilian gauges won't work.

Hi George,

Actually, that doesn't seem like such a bad deal. I looked at their website and they appear to do high quality work. For four gauges (or six depending on how you count the 3in1) of that quality, I'd say its worth it. Then again, I'm planning to keep the car for a long time as well. Thanks for the info.

aloha,
Joel
