Anyone know why VS put the Speedo and fuel/temp gauges on opposite sides, when compared to the original 57 speedster? Having trouble seeing the speedo, would be much easier if it were on the right, thought I would check prior to trying to change positions. Thanks

It can be moved with a longer cable , but requires wrestling with the wires some.
Mine is on the right and it’s a lot easier to see.

Thanks Tom, Do you know who has the cable I would need and how long it needs to be? I believe my gauges are the Brazilian VDO knock offs.
Or use a GPS speedometer from Beck.
A new Beck Speedo that is a different side (smaller) and good chunk of $ isn't "prudent" when a longer $12 cable will suffice. I had found a neat list of cable lengths by models and posted it here awhile back. Here's what I quickly found-

Agreed, any idea as to the length needed? I just saw a YouTube, showed the VW cable runs off the front wheel, that's a new one for me, is that the same for a VS speedster? Hope it is, looks "fairly" easy.
Yup - VS is VW pan based. I'd look up stock length and add 10". Usually a C clip on the RT front bearing hub. Don't loose it.
Will do, thanks.
Just looked under the dash, what a mess. I think I would rather pull my finger nails out than tackle that right now. There is only one screw holding the speedo in place, of course it is the top screw, at least I am getting fairly good at guessing speed based on either rpm or general needle position of the speedo.
I do appreciate the input.
There were a number of different length speedo cables used. Yours is probably a stock VW Beetle cable at 48.62" (1235mm)

You want the longer cable for the 1950's through 1970-ish, so look at 113957801AG.
It might help to call the Bug City guys - they are VERY knowledgeable and can help to make sure you get the right threaded end for your Speedo - they used a different end for the Super Beetles (SB) which might not work on your speedo. Tell them your speedo is the same threads as the std Beetle sedan for 1954 - 1974, but you need a cable 6"-8" longer (tell them why and what it's going into....They'll know how to help.
