Since fibreglass (GRP) burns very well and there is a lot of GRP surface area in the engine compartment I would advise you to forget about insulation and do the touch and smell test for fuel leakage every time you check your oil - at least once a week.

Prevention is better than protection. Remedy any leak problems immediately. Make sure all pressure side (pump to carbs) lines are gasoline rated and have S/S clamps at carbs, "T"s, etc., and do not overtighten the clamps as they may cut through the rubber - just snug the clamps up. Do not use a glass or plastic inline fuel filter in the engine compartment. Make sure the copper and rubber lines from tank to pump do not chafe or run across hot surfaces.

It is a good idea to change rubber fuel lines once a year to be on the safe side (fuel line is cheap), but certainly change them if they seem hard and dry or show evidence of cracking or splitting.
