Sorry about that. Anyway, hopefully this topic isn't too worn out already. I was just wondering what insurance company to go with for a speedster with daily driving, and also do you tell the insurance company it is a replica or a vw? Thanks all, happy new year!

You tell them exactly what it is..ie: Vintage CMC IM whatever and what it replicates. Then you will be told noway by some insurance companies and others will have no problem with it all.
Almost none of the insurers want this to be your only car?? They almost all require you have a extra car. They don't want to insure a car like this if you are going to drive it in bad weather.
I use State Farm, declared value, no mileage limit, must not be only car.
And yes if you use the search feature you will find this subject covered way too many times.

I also use State Farm. I think I pay roughly $21/month. They require a primary car as your daily driver of course. But being 26 years old, I think $20 bucks a month is pretty damn good.
Why don't you just get a cheap bug or ghia, call it your daily driver, insure it with liability only, and you are set.

I had Allstate on my old Land Rovers with no problems but they would not touch a kit car even though they initially said they would. I went with Progressive as I was in a bind. They give me unlimited milage but I am paying around $400 for 6 months which is more than my regular car. I am up for renewal in February and will be checking State Farm out for sure.
With liability being what it is today I would be honest with your insurance company up front. You don't want to have an accident claim on your " '69 Beetle" and then have them deny the claim once they find out it is a kit car.

That's the key. Read the policy and know what you are getting -- and getting into. DO NOT make the mistake of thinking that once the policy is issued you have coverage. If you dance around a single question on the application, or do anything which the policy doesn't contemplate, you are going to be in litigation with your insurance company over a claim. Every company has different requirements, different conditions and different limitations. Some require it not be your daily car. Some have mileage limits. Some have very restrictive limitations on use, where kept, etc. Read carefully what you are buying. I went with a major company rather than one of the "collector car" specialty companies, because of the restrictions those specialty companies impose. The cost differential is not that great. Good luck; and yes, if you search this topic you will find that it has been debated ad nauseum, with no real consensus.
Tony,
Check into "Great American" , my wife writes for them here in Pa there is no bs for coverage and unlimited miles.

Alan,
You mentuioned them once before but my search indicated they were only doing specialty caualty insurance for business. Their personal lines were sold a year or so ago.
Maybe I am looking at the wrong people. Can you or your wife provide contact info for me?
Thanks,
Tony

I'd be interested too Alan. Thanks!
I have seen many many posts about this same question over the past year and thought it might be a good idea of one of the folks out there that have wives or others friends etc that write insurance for these jewels could put together a package for SOC members that offer good coverage at a reasonable price that give us more flexibility and not necessarliy limit our mileage to 2500/year. It could be a good money maker for someone.

Problem with that is agents are licensed in the state that they reside in and on occassion a neighboring state may also be writtien provided the agency is licensed in the state.
I'll ask my wife for details and post her suggestions.
In addition to the normal modes or transportation, she deals with streetrods and speciality car coverage.

Alan,
thanks, it was just a thought. There must be a better way to insure these things.
