My used IM is going to be loaded in NJ on mon/tue for the cross country trek by VIP transport. So the time is getting shorter and I am ready for the DMV and am now thinking about Insurance and starting to get quotes.
My regular insurance recommends American Modern Ins. out of Cincinnati
They gave a good price but require a locked garage. I want to park on my driveway and use a car cover.
Can the SOC members share the names of insurance company's that allow parking in a driveway or on the street?
I would welcome any information you could give. I you want to keep it private please e-mail me also.

Thanks all
Dave

Dave, just about all the specialty insurance carriers require that you park your car in a garage. (It has to do with theft) I seriously doubt you'll find anyone that will allow you to park your car outdoors, overnight.

Go back and check your thread in Newbies that you started titled: "A New member says hello and Thanks" I believe we gave you several choices. Also there is a thread, in the same forum titled "Insurance" It too provides a lot of information.
Thanks for the reply Larry, I know this as a common topic and very boring to long established members. I don't want to irritate everyone with already asked and answered questions but in my neighborhood Mission Hills, San Diego a very old section similar to old Pasadena but not as classy there are few garages and it is not uncommon to see very expensive cars parked overnight, one guy down the street from me has a new Carrera under car cover all the time. One guy 2 blocks away has about 4 classic cars in his driveway under car covers, One is a speedster and may be the real deal.

I like to do my own research and please believe me, I am looking through all the back posts and have spent many hours picking up Insurance tips.

In my reading I have noticed that some members do park outside and wondered how they dealt with the insurance/garage issue.

It is looking like AAA or a regular carrier might work better and I am in the process of getting quotes and if I find good information I will post it in the spirit of info sharing.

So please be patient with a newbie and maybe I should have posted this in the newbie section. Theron you are welcome to move this topic over there is you so choose.

Thank you
Dave
Dave,

The referral to the other posts was just to help eliminate duplication.. Most of the information you seek is already here and at other sites.. You'll find that most insurance companies that deal in specialty cars, require a garage. I'm not sure what happens if you don't park in a garage and your car is vandalized or stolen requiring a notification to your insurance carrier. I guess it's worth a try to just "ask" If you're hesitant to ask then call anonymously and ask for a quote and then ask the question.
Thanks to all for responding and please keep your comment and advice coming.
I called quite a few insurance company's Sat and I am am on the way to proving Allan right, but there is always hope. Will continue on Mon.

Terry and Larry, I have considered dropping in on my collector neighbor but most likely he is doing like I suspect many others do and shuffle his cars in his garage by rotation. If I see him out I will chat him up, I have to see if it is a real speedster anyway, he has an Inspector Morse Jag. I have always loved that model Jag.

I do have a few options available like public storage rent a garage but that is very inconvenient and expensive. I do have a brother in law 6 houses down and he has a garage and a Mother in law about 4 blocks away. I am thinking about storing Speedster D in one or the others garage. "Yeah thats the ticket" (get the SNL Jon Lovitz reference?) On pretty good terms with them so that might be the way to go.

Hopefully this thread will add to the forum knowledge about insurance.

Cheers
Dave
I have my Spyder and Speedster replicas insured by Hagerty for stated values. Not only are they required to be in a locked garage, but in an "attached garage." I suppose the idea is that an insured is less likely to burn down a garage to collect insurance if the garage is attached to his/her home.
I think the garage may have to be attached to your personal residence, but don't know for certain. It's worth checking-into to see if it's a requirement that the garage be attached to your personal residence.
You could call Hagerty to find out.
Dave,
Thanks for the tip! I forgot all about Grundy and they do have nice coverage as you say. I will most likely go with them as they gave me a good quote similar to yours $283 per year although I think I have to add $116 per year for Collision. Will have to ask tomorrow. I liked their website and the company's history too.
I do have a brick garage (detached)and it even had a mechanics pit but my wife made me cover it over. My father in law restored a Jag XKE many years ago and I helped a very little because that car was for my sister in law. We did do some other cars that I was more involved in. Most of my wrenching was shade tree style but with out the shade only palm trees on my block.
Any way thanks to all the responders, your comments, advice and insights were very helpful. And hopefully add to the general insurance knowlege.

Cheers
Dave
