They start with 5x3 .188 wall tube. Yep they are stout.
The coolest thing about Henry's roadsters are their torsional rigidity. You can go over railroad tracks, and not feel any flex, noise, rattle, shake whatsoever. And I mean for years to come. They are that well built. Its going to be a great car Marty!
Marty, where are you
Peter the frame is bonded to the body. I am in line for wet sanding and paint. I think that starts this week.

I keep checking back and no updates. If its bothering me it must be killing you Marty.
Looking forward to the next set of photos.

Is it just me or are there others that like myself that look at Henry's shop and enlarging the photos to see the background stuff with greater detail?
Looking good Marty !
Looking good Marty !
I've been in Henry's shop and I gotta say it is pristine. I visited him when Howard's ride was in the works and I drooled on it but I think the paint was dry enough. What I really liked about he shop was that it was broken up into functional areas. Very nice arrangement.
Hopefully have update soon. I made a few updates and Henry took a two weeker with his family. It's kills me too but I do have my Boxster to ease the pain. BTW it rained like 3-4 inches in 1-2 hours last night. Took the temp down from the 100 to a forecasted 90 today. Next week looks normal in low 80s. Heidi can keep you entertained while we wait:)

Marty, the wait will be worth it. You drove my car in Carlisle, yours will be awesome!!! Hope all is well.
Thanks Howard. I am confident now that I have driven a few late model IM's. Your car was a thrill and still fresh in my mind.
Update: Body prep continues. First coat of surfacer before epoxy primer.

Hey Marty--man--they are really coming along and the body looks awesome! Beehives too--how nice is that? I know you are chomping at the bit to get that bad boy into your garage but the wait will be over soon and you will have a jewel. I can't wait to see it myself!
Congrats, Marty---
Congrats, Marty---
I guess we'll have to allow you to bring that real Porsche to Asheville again, huh? Ugh!
There is a guy in town who has a 1955, pre-A (T-0) original Speedster. Beautiful car....A little primitive for my tastes, but beautiful. His beehives rotted out after, what?....60 years, so he ordered a new set (all four) from some place in Germany. Paid MEGABUCKS! Like over $600 per PAIR! They're very beautiful.
Anyway, he gets them in and they're really dim. Like.....'Geez, I dunno.....Are they really lit?'. And that's looking at the STOP lights......
He gets a few friends to stop by and see what's up and one of the guys finally pulls a lens to look at the bulbs. THey look ok, but, in the end, they found that they were fitted with 12V bulbs. Seemed OK at first, until they realized that the car has a 6 volt electrical system.
Doh!!

Funny you mentioned that because Henry gets the original 6V and converts to 12V.
My wife and I stopped by Henry's on Monday. She wants a dry car with a heater and roll up windows. IM does it very well. My wife will be getting rid of her CLK550 and needs a small SUV. She still wants to be able to drive "her" convertible. She won't/ can't drive my CMC. I think the IM Roadster would be a nice car for us both. I saw your car in there... NICE! I have some thinking to do.....Engine, trans colors, suspension, wheels,upolstery.......
That's awesome Mark. Send me a PM if you want to chat about things. Don't tell Vince he'll try to talk you out of it.
BWAHAHAHAHHA!!!!!

Marty:
You'll have to take a shakedown cruise south to Peoria when that beauty arrives! You can compare IM's with Stan Galat and maybe we can take over Michael B's shop for a tech day! One way or another we need to get the Illinois contingent together for a meeting.

That's going to be a timeless combination, Marty.
It's not too late Marty. It could still be a wide body!
Just kidding. It's going to be a beautiful car!

That's funny Troy!
Yes sir, Marty, it's going to be beautiful. Will you please tow my red Beck to Carlisle behind this powerful machine? Thanks in advance.
Rich, we are gonna have a great road trip next year. Maybe we can get a 4-5 car caravan going. Look how the light changes the color in this photo.

It's coming along very well, Marty. That car's going to be a show-stopper.
Caravan? Where are we going?
Thanks Cory. Jack, I hope my car ain't too perty, then I might have to trailer it:)
Trailering--I've changed my attitude towards this---some. With a uber expensive car trailering might make great economic sense because you might not want to pile the miles on it.
In my own road trips I don't remember seeing but one single newish 911 on an interstate obviously being driven on a road trip. In the Midwest and East, I just never see an exotic brand of car being used for highway travel except in the West. Owners of these cars are trying to preserve the value by keeping the miles low. pile Look at the low mileage 10 year old exotics in The Robb Report magazine, for example.
To each his own--right?

Are there still outlets selling JDM 'pullout' Subaru engines? I had an '87 wagon that blew a piston at 137k and I found a guy running a one man shop in Santa Cruz, CA. He bought and installed a Japanese pullout longblock in my car for a total price of $406. and a week's downtime. As I recall the engine was $235. from a reseller in San Leandro. I went another 100,000 miles with that engine and it still ran fine when I sold the car.
The Japanese emmission laws require that all toxic materials and engines in cars be renewed at the equivalent of about 37000 miles or the car has to be junked.
Also, if using a Suby 5 speed, how is the AWB eliminated?
Hmmm, we've got a '98 Outback limited that's got only 49000 miles here....no resale value but maybe great value in a new IM build. (scheming... techniccally it's our daughter's car but she left it here and has a BMW X5 now because she's a 200k silicon valley yuppymommy)
