Well, I'm in the process of buying a used Speedster that is going under a little refurbishing, to give me the car I wanted ever since I saw and drove George Brown's car at Carlisle.

The Rooster was a great Roadster (as all of Henry's cars are), but I'm going with a Speedster with a lot of nice components.

It's taken a long time for me to make this decision, but I feel content that I've made the right choice. And of course, Henry has been great about everything.

Who's that young guy in that photo? I think I used to know him.

As for the speedster, more details to come. It's one I had the chance to buy from Henry a number of years ago, but did not, and now it's available again. It will be undergoing a transformation over the winter to make it more like what I want - mainly cosmetic.

Thanks for the welcome back, gentlemen.

:-)

Marty - I certainly did not mean to hijack your thread here.

Allan - are you thinking of Brook Walton's car? Not the one.
No, not Scott's beautiful car.

This is a speedster that Henry has owned for the past year or two. It was at Carlisle one year, owned by a fellow from Ottawa, who sold it back to Henry.

As I said, it was offered to me previously, but the situation was not right at the time. Things have changed, so I can move on it now.

It's dark blue with a wine (burgundy) colour interior, 2332 engine, and Porsche 901 transmission.

I posted three small photos of the car as it is now, but it will look different when finished.

Yeah, it's worth it to post up pictures from an image-hosting site, just to keep the resolution intact.

I think back in 2007 or 2008, Chris and I were barreling along I-81 (it might have been the year that Wild Bill was trying to catch up to us from Harrisburg) when we overtook Nicholas and his wife in that blue IM. As we started to pass, Chris put down his passenger window so we could hear the sweet sound of that exhaust on his 2232. We slowed a bit, waved to Nicholas and just sat to his left for a mile or so, listening to the muted purr of that car. chris' only comment was "wow..." followed by a pleasant smile.

Good for you, Bob! That's a wonderful little car!

Thanks, Gordon

It's nice to hear so many good reports about that car from people who have driven, seen it, or heard it.

I had two days in Vancouver last week, and fortunately the first day was sunny, so that was spent in top down driving, in both city and more rural driving. The car is a great highway cruiser, once you get used to the shift pattern of the 901 gearbox, with first down low to the left, and then 2,3,4 and 5 forming an 'H' pattern. The four wheel disc brakes, and rack and pinion steering really add to the driving experience.

I guess this is a good 65th birthday present to me (and Mary, of course...). We look forward to some nice trips once retirement comes our way.
