Those are pretty dang clever!
Interesting price point. $500 or so is about 1/3 of a Bend Pak LR-60. About a quarter of a two-post lift before install.
And portable by pickup truck.
Thinking hard about getting a set.
I'm seriously liking these stands. Sure...they are "manual" but also portable so
$$$ sharing with friends is possible as well as taking them with you if you move.
Can anyone see a downside to these ? I'm almost ready to buy.
Last idea now......what if you had an airbag in each unit ? Too complicated ?
Too much pressure required ?
When I pulled up the link my first thought was "what an idiot! Using milking stools for jacks!"
A couple of years ago at a garage sale I saw an interesting item, an inflatable car jack. It was a big inner tube attached to a mini compressor. You slid the inner tube under the car and plugged the compressor into the lighter socket.
They wanted $10. Should've bought it just for the seriously funny photos on the box.
Pretty cool, but I'll bet he could sell a zillion at a slightly lower price point. $500 seems a bit overpriced for this pretty neat product. They seem safe?
Big-city fire departments have used lift bags for a long time. They're great for tight rescues, where you can't fit the Jaws to lift a car, bus, truck, or heavy building material off a victim. Naturally, professional models have little in common with a cheap Asian knock-off. Best advice for car lifting and stabilizing products: buy the best you can afford, and follow manufacturer's directions. When a jack or lift fails, it often does so with the purchaser under the car. Not only a bad day for the victim, but for the family member who finds him. Homemade jack stands and ramps can be extremely dangerous.
"I'm learning to weld by building this two-post lift of my own design" is the new "hold my beer and watch this."
I like the Camaro on the wooden 2X4 stands(Lane's jalopnik link, scroll down to comments).
Looks like about 10 2X4, and 2 2X6 or 2X8. What, about $50, including screws and construction adhesive? And of course some time. But very sturdy. I'd make them and use them.
My new Speedster/Subbie will finally be in it's Georiga home from California on this Wednesday. I have a MaxJax 4 point lift. Where can I put the points under the chassis? I like this lift because there is nothing in the way. Any under chassis pictures would be helpful. Thanks, RonM
Ron,
Is your car built on a VW pan or tube frame?
Yes it is a VW pan. Thanks
Excellent, Ron. Congrats. Can you tell us a bit more about the Soob conversion ? Who did it, what engine, what tranny etc. ? Thanks.
Hi David, My car is a John Steele JPS Motorsports Speedster. It is the top of the line, with all the extras, Subaru engine, full emblem pkg., larger tires, Bluetooth radio, of course heat and AC. I think the only trans. offered is the VW. I hope somebody will send me pics. of the under-chassis where I can lift this VW frame without any damage. I have a 4 post MaxJax lift. It's taken a long time to build this car, but John told me that California made them change the the way they painted, California?, imagine that. I will be posting more information when she arrives this Wed., fingers crossed. RonM

How long have you been waiting for your car?
You would think that this is something that John could and should advise you on.
You would think?
I flew out to LAX on July 8 and ordered it. If she is healthy and well I will be happy. RonM
Dan is your car like mine, Subi, etc.? What can I expect? How long did it take to get yours? I noticed a lot of owners are concerned with people behind them seeing you very well, and are installing LED third brake lights. Your opinion? Thanks,RonM
Sorry Dan, I am still trying to learn how to use this site, how do I use the dialog format? RonM
The easiest way is to click at Dan's name, and when the window opens, on the right hand side there is a "Start Dialog" which you can click and then you basically send Dan a message that only you and Dan (and anybody else that you select) know.
Congratulations on your JPS. I have the "old skool (aircooled) JPS
Dan!
