What are my replacement options, anybody know? This for a JPS car. Nice looking but flimsy original just broke right off. I have pinged JPS, and await his reply. But maybe there is a better option, like solid metal?

Or I could (if I can find them) bring you my original inside handles and let you have 'em at Carlisle.
Or, if I can remember to bring a set of nice, heavy early VW handles that I have somewhere out in the garage.
Don't forget that Bruce is always looking for parts donations for the Carlisle Raffle. Raffle tickets offset some of the cost of the event. I got a nice oil cooler with fan and thermostat last year with my raffle ticket!
Have contacted Carey, and he has handles, not OEM, but somewhat better than what I started with. Price less than but near the Stoddard amt. I wonder if the Stoddard handles are solid, and whether or not they would fit on my hardware. How to find out?? Anybody here bought the Stoddard handles?
PS: to Lane and Rich: any and all contributions would be gratefully accepted.
I have a pair of Stoddard inside handles on Pearl.
Very solid, very smooth and cost about $60 for the pair.
Miracle of Miracles, they fit the splines of the CMC door handle stub.

Gordon, I'm thinking of springing for these, but am worried about the fit w/ the spline. The best I could get out of Steele was that the mechanism is "Early VW" Stoddard says these handles are for Pre A and A. I know my '56 A Coupe had a lot parts on it embossed w/ a VW logo, so maybe it all works together. Unless someone has done it (your case is as close as any so far) there is only one way to find out: pony up the $$, and give it a go.
You could try giving the Wagen Werks guys a call... They stock used/salvaged OEM interior handles ( and many other great used/salvaged parts). I picked up a great pair a few months ago 10-14$ each... Price based on chrome condition... But IMO chrome was in great daily driver shape. SOLID OEM parts and after a little polishing the chrome looked great!

Good luck... Luis
... Forgot to mention. Call them to inquire about specific handles, and ask them to send you pictures of they specific ones they have in stock. (in lieu of just ordering through the web site).
They were very helpful and happy to send me pics of what they had so I could pick the two "I thought" looked best.
Cheers
Txs for the link. Looks like they have the goods. I am leaning toward the Stoddard units -- new material, I think, and expensive, but truly authentic, and very nice. I'll wait until I see the ones offered to me here by others at Carlisle, will peruse the flea market there, and then decide.
El:
As far as I know, the early VW door handle splines are the same as a 356 AND the same as what we've all got in our Speedsters.
Just back-of-the-head info for perusing the Carlisle flea market.
