Interior Door Release Spindle Size

In regards to the interior door release mechanism does anyone know what size the spindle/spline is?  I want to get some aftermarket billet door handles and they come with multiple adapters for the different spindle sizes but I don't know what size the spindles are.

Here is the part I'm referring to:

I'm leaning toward something like this:

As you can see there is a square spindle adapter (obviously won't work), a 7/16th" adapter, and a 1/2" adapter. Will one of those fit the VW spindle??

I don't have an accurate way to measure it or I would have.

If you're not living life on the edge, you're taking up too much space!
