I just bought (6/3/14) VIN   IM12169     White with Red leather…and a sorry motor, but for a fair price (motor considered).  I have been a Porsche owner since I was 19 (1970) and I have lusted for an Intermeccanica Roadster since I first saw one in the early '90s

I actually owned a '60 roadster (#88755) in the early '80s and always felt it was one of the best 356 Porsches ever built.  I am delighted with the Replica community and dismayed by the "real" speedster/Conv. D/roadster community and values. The "real" ones used to be cheap and fun as hell to thrash around in….now they are designer trophies for the wealthy and trendy…BUT, on the plus side of that, it certainly bolsters the values of replicas and justifies keeping them running strong and spending fun money on them. I have meet a couple of speedster guys at the Parts Heaven Swap Meet and they pointed me to this site.  I'm glad you all are here…..

Two Envemos (now sold)

One Intermeccanica Convertible D (keeper)

My #1 issue will be getting a slightly toasted motor replaced.  Lots of venders (per Samba site), but do you all know who are the 'good guys' and who are the posers ????

What makes a motor slightly toasted?

Regarding the posers; they are easy to spot, they are the ones running Subi motors. (*Ted ducks)

No, they're the ones with big smiles on their faces, because their cars seldom break down.

As for engines, you can't go wrong with CB performance.

Stay away from Bernie Bergmann; a lot of people have real trouble and you won't get what you paid for. I have heard stories of engine builds with mis-matched case halves (they are machined as a pair and should not be mixed), larger valves in one head, stock heads on larger than 2 liter engines when ported big valve heads were paid for, different cam than specified, counterweighted stroker crankshafts with pieces of welding rod hanging off, the big ends of rods clearanced way too thin, used parts when new was specified and paid for, and the list goes on. You'll send the engine back for warranty work (on your dime) and it comes back not fixed, and after that no one will talk to you. Once he has your money...

Look him up in the Samba in the feedback section; you'll be amazed he (or whoever is now running the company) is still in business. There are a couple of other engine only places that are bad news as well. When I remember their names back I will be...Al

OK OK…..Who ever really gets ALL their money back????when you consider the value of the time you spend.

I have a nasty hole in #3-4 head along with scored cyls…..this 2110 motor was built by a rookie or a crookie…..   It has lots of blingy things on like Weber 44's and chrome EVERYTHING (not my taste )

I wound like to get a quality 1776 or 1835 long block or turnkey from a trusted vendor or shop (in Calif).  I am remodeling the house right now and my wife will bring a large knife to bed with her if I don't get it finished….no time to build a motor.  BUT !!!! I REALLY want to get # IM 12169 on the road…..So a finished motor is my desire….

Rascon Motorsports in Huntington Beach - but I don't think he has anything prebuilt. John at Powerhaus may have long block already built. Stick with a 2110 since you have the big carbs. Nothing wrong with a 2110. They are reliable.

Also, if the motor came from Intermecannica it will have an IM vin number stamped on it. If it does then it is most likely a CB Performance motor. They generally are worth rebuilding.

I'd like to advocate for BlackLine Racing in Salt Lake.

As much as you'd like this to go back together quickly, that's not generally how stuff works in this little corner of the automotive universe- the good stuff is made to order, and there's generally a line of guys ahead of you. If an engine is sitting there waiting to be purchased, I can guarantee it's not what you want.

They say, "Fast. Cheap. Good. Pick any two", but in this hobby it's usually just one of the three you pick. I recommend "Good".
