Hi all ...I'm seeking suggestions as to what to do about insurance for my intermeccancia speedster.

When I purchased the speedster last year, my insurance agent recommended Hagerty Insurance ...After talking with Hagerty, I sent them photos of my speedster along with a copy of the California title & registration and a check for the amount for the insurance ...They said I was covered.

When it came time to renew my registration, I couldn't as I had not received proof of insurance from Hagerty. I contacted Hagerty and was told I was denied insurance (this was one year after I had sent them a check) and had never been covered and they had not cashed the check I'd sent them (I know, I should have checked with my bank if the check was cashed ...poor bookeeping on my part).

The reason Hargety had denied my insurance was that the speedster was titled and registered as a "special construction vehicle", (this is the correct way to title & register a speedster replica in California).

I contacted my insurance agent ...they (Allstate Insurance) wouldn't insure it for the same reason ...he said he contacted several other insurance companies that specialize in insurance for classic cars and was told they would not insure it for the same reason.

Not only was I driving my speedster for a year thinking I was insured and wasn't ...now, I'm unable to drive it because I can't register it because I can't insure it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Wayne

Wayne, I contacted Bob DeKorne of Hagerty Ins. He's going to call you regarding this situation. Mr. DeKorne stated that they made numerous attempts to contact your agent with no reply.

Next time, deal directly with Hagerty.

I insured mine through Midwest Classic Car Insurance. Robin is the guy that i dealt with there and he is very knowledgable when it comes to replicas as they do ALOT of the Cobra replicas. I got an amazing deal with him and they really just broker through Infinity Insurance.

Wayne,
I just received an email from Mr. DeKorne regarding your insurance. He has left a voice mail on your home phone and will attempt to call you tomorrow. He reviewed the photo's of your car and stated that his company would be glad to insure your vehicle. Additionally, the only restrictions that would apply is that the vehicle not be a daily driver.

Good luck and I hope this helps
