I had a conversation with Henry Reisner the other day and took the opportunity to ask him about the final production numbers for modern Intermeccanica models. Henry shared with me that overall there were 618 Intermeccanica Roadsters and Speedsters produced and a further ~65 Kubelwagens.

They were still building pan cars for 2? 3? 4? years after they moved to Vancouver (1979? 1980?). I met the guy who did their pan shortening (and welded up the frames that got glassed in the bodies themselves) in '82 or '83? I've never been able to find out if there was a distinct cut off and they went to only using their designed chassis at a certain point or it was a somewhat gradual thing where for a (short) time they were offering both.
I think I read somewhere the number of Speedsters produced in L.A. was 608 or 609, but I've heard the number 602 being tossed around as well, so who knows exactly. We know it was over 600.
~1200+ of any car is rare. Same neighborhood as the original Shelby Cobra.
The original VS said they built 3,300+! Guess that includes AZ but don't think they built many.
The original VS built more than 3,300. The new VS took orders for a lot but probably delivered less than 10. Just a guess but they took more money for car than cars delivered.
I seem to recall I saw/heard how many 911 based Speedsters Henry has built, and it really is not that many. I saw and talked to an owner of an early one a few years ago at Mosport, and other than the wide body one built for a guy in Toronto, that's all I know of here in Canada.
Rare birds, indeed.
@Bob: IM S6- less than 10? 20? I can think of 4 or 5, but that's it.
One of us will have to ask Henry some day.
I'd be curious as to how many are out there.
