yep, Golf 1.8 non turbo, which I hope I don't regret(not being a turbo that is) A/C, heat!!! just the thought of them makes me tingle, seriously, of the two speedster I had this summer I only drove them a couple of days, just too stickey hot. I know I don't need water cooled to get A/C and heat but it sure is a plus. Was debating on a SAW cab, but after Carlisle when for the first time I saw an IM in person not just pictures I was convinced that only IM was for me. Utterly speechless at the quality oozing from every inch of the car. Not that the SAW cab wasn't great as well, I though prefer IM. Never thought I'd splurge for a new one, but when the idea of it being liquid cooled came into play, and I realistically thought about the lack of driving pleasure I got from two speedsters, and how much money I had tied up in the two of them, the $$ difference in getting a new one became a no brainer!! I can literally enjoy this new one about 9 months out the year instead of a stickey two.
I think you will be just fine with the non turbo, and it will definitely be a simpler, cooler running engine then a VW turbo would be, and the while the hp numbers might not wow you, the power is going to come on so much earlier in the RPM range that it will feel like a much more powerful engine while giving you great gas mileage in cruise.
Henry suggested the non-turbo for just the reasons Steve pointed out. And no I don't know yet where the radiator will be, I just KNOW there will be one, and I LOVE it!! I got my first speedster,CMC, over ten years ago and have been saying ever since I sold it three years ago that IF ONLY someone would make one with heat and a/c, I'd get one in a minute. Here in Penna., there just aren't enough good months out of the year for me to justify another air-cooled, I guess in my middle age I'm becoming more of a creature of comfort then I've been in the past.
Henry is using my Roadster as the test bed for the watermeccanica and it gets back from Paint tomorrow. The radiator goes in the front so it eats into some of the trunk space and I also went for a non turbo engine, also for the heat reason.

We went for a 5 speed transmission, the 915, and a few other goodies. I'm really looking forward to getting it later this year, I hope in about 2 months.
