Some googling shows they were still using the Automobilli Intermeccanica name when they were making pan-based Speedsters in California in the early '80s, but the pictures in this 1979 brochure don't show that badge.

The badge was used on some of their even earlier Italian-bodied sports cars, like the Italia.

So, this could be an early IM that someone put one of those badges on, or it could be lots of other things. More pix, especially of the interior, would help the experts here get a better handle. Also, look for an Intermeccanica ID plate inside one of the door jambs.

My pan based Intermeccanica has the carrozzeria IM badge in the same place. There should be a sticker on the body in the driver's doorway and it will list the serial # as well as the build month and year (mine is #...475, October 1979). I believe they built 605 or 610 cars before they relocated to Vancouver, BC.
