Invisible power window switches

Surfing the internet, I found this site, which sells power window switches that are operated by your window cranks. You attach your window cranks to the shaft, which is really a hidden switch. So, your Speedster/Roadster looks like it has manual windows, but moving the window cranks up or down activates the switch that makes your power window go up or down. Pretty neat, eh?

Hotronic switches are pretty common in the street rod industry and I converted my IM Conv D to power windows with these switches. A picture does not add much since you use the same crank handles as with manual winding. In fact, power windows with crank style switches are probably easier to install and adjust than mechanical windows.

I believe Hotronics was the original manufacturer of these invisible switches, but I think that most folks would need an entire conversion kit to go from manual to power windows. There are many different brands available - Specialty, AutoLoc, Electric Life, Spal, etc.

Sounds like a great alternative to roll up windows. I have been trying to find out what type of handle splines offered will work with the VW model handles in most of our cars.

Wouldn't it be kinda high tech looking to have the windows hooked up to the pre alarm inputs, so when someone gets to close to the car it beeps and rolls up the windows.

I might do that.
