It's an outlaw. A real porsche, but it is not original.

I don't know too much about the outlaws (read the IM Cost thread under vendor specific, people have gotten into outlaws there)

I could be wrong, but i believe most outlaws were real beat up original 356's, (usually parts cars) that people would use as if it were a kit. They would cut down a VW pan just like we do, only put a real 356 body on. more common on the coupes, where people turn them into race cars, this car sounds like it was a coupe, and someone changed the body to a convertible. Doesn't have the value of a "real" 356 because it has been heavily modified. It's like having a metal kit that is technically a porsche (which i believe is not that important to most of us).

So just like our cars, it's value is determined by build quality, and how bad you want it.

An outlaw is not a Porsche body on a VW chassis - that's not even possible, as Porsches did not use pans with bodies bolted on, they were a unibody design. In Porsche 356 circles "outlaw" means the car has been intentionally modified, usually with a hot engine, non-stock wheels, lowering, and various cosmetic changes (nerf bars, racing graphics, roll bar, etc.). Check out www.partsobsolete.com/outlaws.htm and my own collection of pictures www.bruceclement.com/356/outlaw.htm which are all real Porsches.
